Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Acura RDX 4.69 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Acura RDX stands out as a compact luxury crossover SUV that blends size, utility, quality, safety, technology, performance, and value into one appealing package. It is also part of Acura’s third-generation RDX, which adopted the company’s latest exterior styling and interior design philosophies along with the completely rethought True Touch Interface infotainment system. That combination gives the RDX a more modern feel inside and out, while still keeping the model’s focus on practicality and a premium driving experience.
For buyers, the 2021 RDX’s appeal lies in how well it balances everyday usefulness with a sporty character. Acura’s redesign for the 2019 model year marked a transformation for the nameplate, and the RDX is described as selling well in Canada relative to its segment. Owners also praise its value, comfort, spacious interior, and stylish design, which reinforces its broad appeal. At the same time, some drivers have been disappointed by fuel economy and the audio system’s performance, particularly the way noise-cancelling technology affects sound quality, so it is not without compromises.

Confident, quick, and clean — the right move I bought a 2021 Acura RDX A-Spec after a long stretch of research, quotes, and test drives. Came from a 2015 Mazda6—solid, efficient—but I was ready for something with more presence and power. The RDX gave me that without stepping into overpriced territory. The turbo delivers. Paired with the 10-speed, it moves when I need it, cruises when I don’t. Sport mode plus paddles gives just enough edge without trying too hard. The ride feels tight and grounded, and the A-Spec trim looks clean and confident—no chrome, no fluff. Inside, it’s a clear step up. Ultrasuede, ambient lighting, panoramic roof—it feels elevated, not loud. The ELS Studio sound system is better than I expected, no exaggeration. Fuel economy is lower than my old Mazda. I’m averaging 23–24 mpg mixed, which is fair for an AWD turbo, but it’s a drop. I expected it, but it’s worth noting. The button shifter is fine, but the tray underneath it is a catch-and-forget zone. I’ve left my phone in there more than once because of how tucked away it is. Not a flaw, just an adjustment. Same with the seat moving back when I shut the car off. Lighting fades, dash does a little goodbye animation. I’ve never had a car do all that before. It’s subtle, but now I notice. No issues with the infotainment or CarPlay. I plug in, it works. I’m not paying extra for AcuraLink remote start when the fob does the job just fine. Overall, this RDX feels like a clean step forward. It’s fast when I want it, quiet when I need it, and doesn’t feel like it’s trying to impress anyone. It just handles its business. I’d buy it again.

This car gets high marks for interior design, efficient use of space and comfort. On the other hand fuel economy is pretty poor considering vehicle size and throttle response. What is really disappointing is the impact of the noise canceling technology on the ability of the paying customer to control the sound of the audio system. If you want more bass tones you are out of luck. The more you turn the bass up the more the system cancels it out and the worse it sounds. Acura should just build a quiet car to begin with and not rely on electronic mumbo jumbo.

We decided between Lexus and Acura. Though Lexus scores just above in reliability and ease of tech features we chose the Acura RDX. The Lexus RX was too big and the NX too small for our needs and the Acura RDX was just the right in between size of those two cars. It has very good trunk space with even more storage underneath. There are levers in the trunk to let down the seats (a feature missing on the Lexus, if you are not tall you have to go to the backseat to let them down.) The seats also lay flat as opposed to quite an angle on the Lexus. The passenger seat on the Acura has all the same power comfort adjustments as the driver seat, we couldn’t find one Lexus with that, not even on the luxury trim. Acura also makes is easy to know what is in the car because all their trim levels have a sameset of features so looking for a used car was much easier than Lexus because though Lexus has trim levels customers can add on individual features that don’t come on the trim so you never know if what you are looking for is on the car . Even at the luxury level we could not find an NX with 360 view or Heads-up. I am sure they are out there just pretty hard to find. On the Acura we knew the Advanced package always had those features so it made looking easier. I also like that Acura has left the dead space underneath the console open for a bit more storage space, you can fit a small purse there. Dead space on the Lexus. So for those reasons we chose the Acura over the Lexus. However they are both very nice cars and I will say all the Lexus Dealerships we went to were superior in their customer service! We just liked the Acura car better.

2021 Acura RDX Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2021 Acura RDX prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2021 Acura RDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $33,352 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $33,111 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $36,311 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $36,024 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.42% |
Prices have softened 7.42% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 158 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Acura RDX earns a 4.69/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating, which points to strong overall appeal. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its fantastic value, comfort, spacious interior, stylish design, and fun driving experience. That lines up well with the RDX’s role as a compact luxury crossover that balances everyday usefulness with a sporty character and a premium feel.
With 24.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free in day-to-day use, with buyers appreciating its long-term value and the confidence it inspires. On the road, the RDX’s broad torque curve, predictable handling, precise steering, and fade-resistant brakes reinforce that sense of consistency.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core durability and more about living with the infotainment and audio-system compromises some owners mention.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Acura RDX?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base trim starts the range, but the Tech trim adds blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, which are missing from the base model. The A-Spec focuses on sportier styling and interior details, while the Elite and Platinum Elite bring additional premium touches.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and standard SH-AWD. The torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system helps the RDX feel more agile and rewarding to drive.
- Safety package: Acura’s standard suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not included on the base trim, so check carefully if those matter to you.
- Infotainment: The True Touchpad Interface uses a touch-sensing pad rather than a touchscreen, and the system includes satellite radio, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi tethering. An on-board navigation system is available.
- Fuel efficiency: Some owners are disappointed by the fuel economy, so it’s worth factoring that into your ownership expectations.
Which 2021 Acura RDX trim should I buy?
The 2021 Acura RDX is offered in 5 trim levels: base, Tech, A-Spec, Elite, Platinum Elite.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the entry point, but you give up blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert. It makes sense only if you want the lowest starting price and can live without those features.
- Tech: This is the best-value trim because it adds the missing blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert while keeping the RDX’s core strengths intact.
- A-Spec: Choose this if you want the sportiest look and a more distinctive cabin, including front sport seats with simulated suede inserts, red stitching, and unique trim details.
- Elite: This trim leans more premium than the A-Spec and is priced slightly lower, making it a good fit if you want a richer feel without the A-Spec’s styling emphasis.
- Platinum Elite: This is the top trim, and it adds the most upscale equipment in the range for shoppers who want the fullest luxury experience.
The safety-package gap on the base trim is the key thing to watch, so the Tech trim is the one most shoppers should start with.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Acura RDX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.
- Deal availability: 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 158 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.42% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $33,111 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Acura RDX's resale value?
The current average of $33,352 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,024 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the RDX has become more approachable for used buyers, which can help demand stay healthy if you decide to sell later. At the same time, the current market is still giving shoppers room to negotiate, so a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out.
The model’s strong value proposition and broad appeal should help support interest over time, especially among buyers looking for a premium compact crossover with a sporty edge.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX safe?
The 2021 Acura RDX earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and five-star overall ratings from NHTSA, though it also earns four-star frontal-impact and four-star rollover resistance ratings from NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Acura equips every RDX with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on the base trim, so you need to move up to Tech at minimum for those features.
One caveat is that the RDX’s safety suite is not as comprehensive as some other Acura applications, since it lacks pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and Traffic Jam Assist.
Should I buy a 2021 Acura RDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.42% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines sporty driving character with a modernised cabin and strong value.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $30,130 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,352 CAD average.
- It offers strong value with plenty of space and safety tech.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $38,189 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $33,352 CAD average.
- It adds fresh styling, a quieter cabin, and refined ride and handling.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and modern features, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the newer updates and are willing to pay more.
