Is the 2020 Toyota Tundra a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.79/5 user rating and a 5.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

Drivers consistently praise its reliability, power, and spacious interior, and the owner feedback also points to a sturdy, dependable truck that suits long-term ownership. The overview frames it as a straightforward choice if you value durability and long-term ownership over novelty. The trade-offs are clear, though: poor fuel economy and an outdated interior design come up repeatedly, and the expert notes also call out noise and an uncompetitive overall package.

Only 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful shopping.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tundra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary repeatedly describes the Tundra as reliable, dependable, sturdy, and ideal for long-term ownership. The expert summary goes even further, saying it should prove utterly bulletproof in terms of reliability. That durability-focused reputation is one of the main reasons you’d consider this truck.

Toyota also describes the 5.7-litre V8 as a refined and durable workhorse, which reinforces the truck’s long-haul character. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about mechanical novelty and more about accepting an older design with compromises in efficiency and refinement.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Tundra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR, SR5, and Platinum are the three main trims, and the higher you climb, the fancier and plusher the truck gets. The SR5 adds package options such as SX, TRD Off-road, TRD Off-road Premium, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Pro, and Chrome Appearance, while the Platinum can be paired with a 1794 Edition package. Base-trim trucks use a 7-inch display, while more expensive versions upgrade to an 8-inch screen.
• Powertrain: Every 2020 Tundra uses a 5.7-litre V8 with a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine is described as a refined and durable workhorse, and the truck’s power delivery is strong, but fuel efficiency is unimpressive.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense comes standard and includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also available, and Safety Connect services are included on most Tundras. Base-trim feature gaps are mainly about equipment breadth rather than the core safety suite.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get a 7-inch display, while pricier versions move to an 8-inch screen. All versions include Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB media and charging ports. The system also supports dynamic navigation, dynamic voice recognition, dynamic point-of-interest search, SiriusXM satellite radio, and connected safety services on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says a Tundra 4WD uses 18.0 L/100 km in the city, 14.2 on the highway, and 16.3 combined. The expert also recorded 16.4 L/100 km over a week of mixed driving.

Which 2020 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Tundra is offered in 3 trim levels: SR, SR5, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Tundra’s core durability and capability without paying for extra luxury or tech. It’s the trim to consider if value matters most and you’re comfortable with the most basic equipment.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim because it opens the door to the widest range of packages, including TRD Off-road, TRD Sport, and TRD Pro. If you want the most flexibility in how you equip the truck, this is the one to focus on.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the plushest version of the Tundra and are willing to pay for it. It sits at the top of the range and can be paired with the 1794 Edition package for even more upscale appeal.

Toyota Safety Sense comes standard, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 63 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.92% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $43,481 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $44,029 CAD sits slightly below last year's $49,424 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable level today, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. Even so, the Tundra’s reputation for durability and long-term ownership should continue to support demand from shoppers who prioritise dependability over modernity. Its strong value-retention reputation can still help cushion depreciation compared with less sought-after full-size trucks.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tundra safe?

The 2020 Toyota Tundra gets Good ratings in the IIHS tests referenced here, but it also earns Marginal and Poor results in small-overlap frontal testing, and its headlights are rated Marginal. It earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in side-impact protection from NHTSA.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense comes standard and includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and most Tundras include a free year of Safety Connect with automatic collision notification and SOS emergency calling.

The main safety caveat is the truck’s crash-test performance, especially the small-overlap results and headlight rating.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its reliability-first appeal and straightforward, durable formula.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $46,552 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $44,029 CAD average.
• It keeps the Tundra relevant with key updates and special editions.

The bottom line: Choose the 2020 if you want the better price and are comfortable with an older, less modern truck. Consider the 2021 if you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer take on the same proven formula.
