How much does the 2020 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices have softened 8.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 429 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Corolla earns 4.69/5 from owners and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, reliable performance, modern safety features, stylish design, and good value for the price. For you, that means this Corolla fits especially well if you want a compact sedan that is cheap to buy, dependable, thrifty with fuel, and still a bit more engaging than the nameplate’s older reputation suggests.

It also lands in a practical sweet spot for frugal family use, though the trade-offs are the usual compact-car ones: tighter rear legroom, less impressive sound insulation, and seats that may not be ideal on long drives.

Good and great deals account for 32.2% of listings, which is a healthy sign of market availability.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback repeatedly points to reliable performance, dependable transportation, and a car that feels easy to count on over time. The expert drive notes also describe the Corolla as dependable and thrifty, with a cost-effective ownership profile that suits buyers looking for low-stress daily transportation.

Toyota’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about living with compact-car compromises such as cabin comfort and road noise.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Corolla?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L trim is the most basic version, while SE and XSE bring the more attractive styling and a more premium-feeling cabin. Base versions are also the ones most likely to miss some convenience and safety equipment, so you should check carefully before assuming a lower-priced car has the features you want.
• Powertrain: L, LE, and XLE trims use a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine with 139 horsepower and a CVT. SE and XSE step up to a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder with 169 horsepower, and the SE can also be had with a six-speed manual.
• Safety package: Every Corolla gets Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes lane departure alert, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, low-light pedestrian detection, daytime cyclist detection, road-sign recognition, and Lane Tracing Assist. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on all but the base trims, and rear cross-traffic alert is not included.
• Infotainment: All versions get Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay, and a 3-year free trial of Safety Connect services. Higher trims add an 8-inch display instead of a 7-inch screen, plus a USB charging port.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Corolla Hybrid LE will burn 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving. The XSE test car was rated at 7.7 L/100 km in the city, 6.1 on the highway, and 7.0 combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Corolla is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point if you want the lowest purchase price, but it is also the most stripped-back version, so you should only choose it if you are comfortable with the fewest features and are mainly shopping on budget.
• LE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the sportier pricing of the SE and XSE.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more comfort-focused Corolla with a higher-spec feel, but you do not need the sportier powertrain.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want the more powerful 2.0-litre engine and a more engaging drive, especially with the six-speed manual.
• XSE: This is the most desirable choice if you want the fullest mix of style, equipment, and driving enjoyment, though it is also the priciest option.

Blind-spot monitoring is standard on all but the base trims, so lower trims deserve extra attention if that feature matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 429 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,685 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $19,751 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,593 CAD.

That softer pricing can be good news if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. A lower current average can support demand from budget-conscious shoppers, especially for a model with a strong reputation for reliability and efficiency.

The Corolla’s broad appeal should help it remain easy to move later, particularly if you keep mileage reasonable and the car is well maintained. Strong owner satisfaction also helps sustain interest when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2020 Corolla earns five-star ratings from NHTSA for frontal-impact protection and side-impact testing, and the IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 comes standard on every Corolla and includes lane departure alert, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, low-light pedestrian detection, daytime cyclist detection, road-sign recognition, and Lane Tracing Assist. Lane Tracing Assist works with adaptive cruise control to help keep the car centred in its lane.

Blind-spot monitoring is standard on all but the base trims, but rear cross-traffic alert is not included. The lane-departure warning can also be irritating because it uses a sharp aural alert instead of a steering-wheel vibration.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2020 model adds more style and a more enjoyable character than older Corolla versions.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,041 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,751 CAD average.
• It adds a more engaging personality, especially in SE and XSE trims.

The 2020 is the better pick if you want the stronger value proposition and are happy with the redesigned Corolla’s mix of style, efficiency, and reliability. If you are willing to spend more for a slightly newer model with a bit more personality, the 2021 is worth a look.
