How much does the 2020 Toyota Corolla cost?

There are 420 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Corolla earns 4.7/5 from owners and 7/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise its excellent fuel economy, reliable performance, modern safety features, stylish design, and good value for the price. That lines up well with its role as a compact sedan that is cheap to buy, dependable, thrifty with fuel, and roomy enough for a frugal family. The trade-offs are familiar compact-car compromises, including tighter back legroom, less-than-ideal sound insulation, and seats that some drivers find less comfortable on long drives.

The market also looks supportive, with 31.9% of listings classified as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the Corolla as reliable and dependable, with trouble-free ownership being a recurring theme in their feedback. The expert assessment also reinforces that impression by calling it dependable and thrifty with fuel, while highlighting its refined, accurate driver-assistance systems.

Toyota’s cost-effectiveness notes also point to a practical ownership proposition, especially if you want a compact sedan that keeps running costs in check. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about comfort and refinement trade-offs that may matter more as the kilometres add up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Corolla?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L trim is the base version, while SE and XSE bring a more attractive look, better interior quality, and a sportier feel. The base trim also misses some equipment that appears on higher versions, so you should compare feature content carefully if you want the best value.
• Powertrain: The L, LE, and XLE use a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine with 139 horsepower and a CVT. The SE and XSE upgrade to a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder with 169 horsepower, and the SE can also be had with a 6-speed manual.
• Safety package: Every 2020 Corolla gets Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes lane departure alert, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, low-light pedestrian detection, daytime cyclist detection, road-sign recognition, and Lane Tracing Assist. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on all but the base trims, and it does not include rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: All versions get Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay, and a 3-year free trial of Safety Connect. Higher trims add an 8-inch display instead of a 7-inch screen, plus a USB charging port.
• Fuel efficiency: The XSE test car was rated at 7.7 L/100 km in the city, 6.1 L/100 km on the highway, and 7.0 L/100 km combined. The expert also noted that real-world efficiency should be better for most drivers than the test result.

Which 2020 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Corolla is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, SE, XSE.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the least expensive path into the Corolla, but you should expect the fewest features and the most basic presentation. It makes sense if your priority is keeping the purchase price down.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds useful everyday equipment without pushing you into the sportier pricing of the upper trims.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more comfort-focused Corolla and are willing to pay more for a better-equipped version.
• SE: This is the right pick if you want the Corolla’s more engaging personality, especially because it brings the sportier look and the available 6-speed manual.
• XSE: This is the most appealing choice if you want the strongest mix of style, equipment, and driving enjoyment, though it is also the priciest.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring is standard on all but the base trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings without rushing.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 420 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.76% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,525 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $19,528 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,404 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also suggests future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if market conditions stay similar. A lower current average can mean less upside for owners who plan to sell soon, especially if depreciation continues at the same pace.

Even so, the Corolla’s broad appeal should help support demand over time. Buyers tend to keep showing up for compact cars with strong value, and this model’s reputation for satisfaction helps reinforce that interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Corolla safe?

The 2020 Corolla earns a five-star rating for frontal-impact protection and side-impact testing from NHTSA, and the redesigned Corolla sedan was named a Top Safety Pick by IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard on every 2020 Corolla. The suite includes lane departure alert, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, low-light pedestrian detection, daytime cyclist detection, road-sign recognition, and Lane Tracing Assist. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on all but the base trims, but rear cross-traffic alert is not included.

One caveat is that the lane-departure warning uses a short, sharp audible alert that some drivers may find irritating.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned model adds more style and a more engaging personality than earlier Corolla versions.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,670 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,528 CAD average.
• It adds a new limited-production Apex Edition with a track-tuned sport suspension and sport exhaust.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger buy because prices have eased and owner satisfaction is high. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model-year update and a more specialised sporty variant, the 2021 is worth a look.

How does the 2020 Toyota Corolla compare to the 2020 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2020 Toyota Corolla 7/10 and the 2020 Honda Civic 8.2/10. The Corolla is the better value play if you want a lower average used price and a stronger share of good or great deals. The Civic counters with a higher expert score, more listings, and a stronger engine on paper, so it may suit you better if performance and selection matter more.
