Is the 2020 Toyota Camry a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Camry earns 4.71/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

For shoppers who want a practical sedan with a more modern feel, the Camry’s mix of everyday usability and added traction from available all-wheel drive makes it especially appealing. Is the 2020 Toyota Camry reliable?

Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe the Camry as reliable, and the review summary also points to dependable ownership, comfort, and fuel economy. The expert assessment reinforces that reputation by highlighting Toyota’s quality, reliability, and value focus, along with the model’s practical, easy-to-live-with character. Toyota’s warranty coverage also helps support confidence in ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-used example may need careful inspection for wear, especially if it has seen heavy commuting or higher mileage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Camry?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lower trims feel well finished, but the base model misses some convenience and safety-related equipment that appears higher up the range. If you want a more upscale cabin, the better-equipped trims add nicer materials and more features.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with FWD, the same engine with AWD, or a 3.5-litre V6. The four-cylinder is the efficiency-minded choice, while the V6 brings much stronger performance but higher operating costs.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is optional, and Safety Connect is not standard on the base model.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get a 7-inch screen, while an 8-inch upgrade is available. Android Auto is standard, and some trims add Remote Connect, but the system’s graphics feel dated.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-drive four-cylinder XLE and XSE are rated at 7.6 L/100 km, AWD four-cylinder models at 8.4 L/100 km, front-drive V6 models at 9.0 L/100 km, the XSE V6 at 9.2 L/100 km, and the TRD at 9.4 L/100 km.

Which 2020 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Camry is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, SE, XLE, XSE, XLE V6, and XSE V6.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Camry’s core safety and practicality at the lowest price. It is also the trim to watch if you want AWD availability without moving up the range.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a sportier look and better interior trimmings without jumping too far in price.
• XLE: This is the sweet spot if you want the most balanced mix of comfort, equipment, and value. The expert review specifically points to the four-cylinder XLE as the best value in the lineup.
• XSE: Choose this if you want a more upscale, more stylish Camry with extra equipment and a stronger feature set.
• XLE V6: Pick this if you want the smoother, more powerful V6 and are willing to pay more for it.
• XSE V6: This is the most performance-oriented mainstream Camry here, and it is the trim associated with the TRD option package.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Camry?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 20.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 110 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.14% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,301 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Camry's resale value?

The current average of $24,096 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,137 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Camry has become a little easier to buy used, which can also mean a more measured resale outlook for future sellers. If prices stay near this level, owners may need to be realistic about how quickly the car will appreciate or hold firm against depreciation. Even so, a model with broad appeal and strong demand can still remain easier to resell than a less popular sedan.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Camry safe?

The 2020 Toyota Camry earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, and automatic high beams. Every Camry also gets 10 airbags, stability control, and a backup camera. Safety Connect is included on every Camry except the base model, where it is available in a package, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is optional. Higher trims can also add Bird's Eye View for a 360-degree parking view.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 20.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds all-wheel drive and the TRD package, broadening the Camry’s appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,137 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $24,096 CAD average.
• It brings subtle styling updates and upgraded Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the better pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and added capability at a slightly lower price. If you are price-sensitive, the 2020 makes more sense; if you want the newer safety package and can pay a bit more, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade.
