What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman is the most basic version, with steel wheels, vinyl upholstery and flooring, a bench seat, and a 5-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience. • Powertrain: You can get a 3.6-litre V6 with eTorque, a 5.7-litre Hemi V8, or the 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6. The diesel stands out for its torque and improved efficiency, while the V8 brings the strongest traditional power output.
• Safety package: The Ram 1500’s safety suite includes features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Which 2020 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 RAM 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-focused starting point if you want a capable work truck with the basics covered, including a rear-view camera, push-button ignition, and a 5-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you care more about utility than luxury, but you should expect a sparse cabin.
• Big Horn: This trim adds more everyday appeal with fog lights, carpet, tinted windows, and access to useful options like the 8.4-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and air suspension. It looks like the best-value choice if you want a better balance of comfort, tech, and price.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the more aggressive, off-road-oriented setup, including lifted suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and a diesel option. It suits you best if style and trail-ready hardware matter more than pure comfort.
• Laramie: This is the luxury-leaning trim, adding leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, parking sensors, and a 9-speaker stereo. It’s the right pick if you want a more upscale daily driver.
• Longhorn: This trim pushes further into premium territory with chrome side steps, navigation, upgraded leather, heated and ventilated rear seats, and a standard spray-in bed liner. It’s best if you want a truck that feels especially well appointed.
• Limited: This is the top luxury choice, with standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and added safety tech such as blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the most complete feature set, this is the one to target.

The safety content notes that advanced safety features are not standard, and some are reserved for higher trims or packages.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,705 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.82% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $31,126 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $31,133 CAD sits slightly below last year's $35,710 CAD.

That price movement suggests the truck has become more accessible to used buyers, which can make it easier for a future seller to attract attention if the vehicle is well kept. A softer market can also mean you may need to price competitively when it’s time to sell, especially if similar listings remain plentiful. Strong equipment, desirable trims, and clean condition should matter more when you want to stand out.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The EcoDiesel returns for every trim, giving you a rare diesel option across the lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,488 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $31,133 CAD average.
• It adds the TRX performance trim, which shifts the truck toward high-performance capability.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and the broadest mix of trims and diesel availability, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for the TRX’s performance focus, the 2021 is the better fit for you.
