CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Mazda CX-30
Summary
With 10 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,493 CAD, 40.0% of 2020 Mazda CX-30 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Mazda CX-30 4.57 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Mazda CX-30 stands out as a small crossover that was designed to feel more premium than its size suggests. Mazda launched it in Canada for the 2020 model year as its second subcompact SUV, and the buying guide describes it as an improvement on the CX-3 in nearly every meaningful way, with more space inside, a premium-quality interior, and a larger, more powerful engine. That combination gives the CX-30 a clear appeal for buyers who want a compact crossover that feels a little more upscale and polished than the norm.
For 2020, the CX-30’s equipment list was strong for the class. The GX trim included 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with Mazda Connect, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speed automatic transmission. Moving up to GS added the 2.5-litre engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air vents, and a full suite of safety and driver-assistance features, while GT brought a Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, a head-up display, leather seats, a power liftgate, paddle shifters, cylinder deactivation, and LED Signature illumination headlights and taillights. Fuel economy ranged from 8.1 L/100 km combined with the smaller engine and front-wheel drive to 8.9 L/100 km combined with the larger engine and all-wheel drive, so efficiency was respectable rather than class-leading.
The main trade-offs are familiar ones for this model. The pros list highlights its stylish design, fun-to-drive character, and strong safety ratings, but the cons note a cramped back seat and limited cargo space. Even so, the 2020 Mazda CX-30 remains appealing because it blends upscale cabin feel, useful standard technology, and a more engaging personality than many small crossovers.

Exterior styling is very nice. Slick, sleek, sporty looking. But the interior is cramped. Front seat space is ok. But back seat has very little legroom and it’s so low that anyone over 5’10” will be impeded. Rear cargo space is a joke. This is a city commuter. Very little utility beyond that.

We love the CX-30. Its the perfect size. The interior is very nice, like a more expensive car. The four cylinder, non turbo, engine is very peppy with good gas mileage. The only thing it doesnt have that my previous car had is the ability to change the number of turn signal blinks on a momentary activation. Its 3 blinks and cant be changed. Nitpicking possibly.

Great value and the best car in the small SUV class. The car comes nicely optioned at the lower levels; we went with the Select. The Mazda design language is sublime; the interior is better designed than BMW and Audi. The interior materials much nicer than one would expect under 30K; in fact youd have to spend more like 50K to get better interior quality. My spouse and I are design professionals so our review leans in that direction.

| Year-Round Low | $21,313 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $23,509 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,535 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.95% |

Is the 2020 Mazda CX-30 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Mazda CX-30 earns a 4.57/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its stylish design, interior quality, and performance, and many feel it delivers a more premium experience than you’d expect in this class. It also fits well if you want a small crossover that feels polished and upscale rather than purely utilitarian. With 26.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still a decent amount of market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Mazda CX-30 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels well put together, dependable, and satisfying to live with over time. That kind of response usually matters most when you’re planning to keep a used vehicle for several years. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained properly and still feels tight and trouble-free.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mazda CX-30?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy without expecting deep discounts everywhere.
- Deal availability: 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 119 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $21,313 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Mazda CX-30's resale value?
The current average of $22,135 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,535 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can work against short-term resale gains if you plan to sell soon. At the same time, the current price level may help you buy at a more reasonable entry point, which can reduce the risk of overpaying. If demand stays steady, a well-kept CX-30 should remain appealing to shoppers who want a stylish small crossover with a premium feel.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Mazda CX-30 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,912 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,135 CAD average.
- It adds a turbocharged option with stronger acceleration and a more premium driving feel.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2020 if you want the better value and a strong ownership reputation. If you’re willing to spend more for extra power and a more upscale feel, the 2021 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritise performance.
