How much does the 2020 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 9.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 175 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.73/5, and our experts give it 8.17/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the Mustang’s power, fun driving experience, stylish looks, and comfortable seats. The broad range of engine choices also comes through as a recurring strength, giving you flexibility depending on how much performance you want.

The main trade-offs are limited cargo space and the fact that advanced safety features are not standard. That matters most if you want a sports car that still has to handle everyday errands or family duty.

If you want a performance-first coupe or convertible with strong value for money, this year’s Mustang fits that brief well. With 29.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers describing the car as something they can count on over time. The expert review reinforces that impression by highlighting the Mustang’s solid performance character and the way it balances raw capability with everyday drivability.

The review also notes a maintenance perk tied to the EcoBoost High Performance Package, which adds to the ownership appeal for some shoppers.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright reliability and more about choosing the right configuration and checking that the car has been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Bullitt stands out with its Dark Highland Green paint, subtle chrome accents, retro-style 19-inch wheels, unique badging, green stitching, and cue-ball shifter. It is also expensive, and the review notes that some cheap plastic interior pieces are harder to accept at that price.
• Powertrain: The lineup ranges from a 310-horsepower turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder to a 760-horsepower supercharged 5.2-litre V8, with a 460-horsepower 5.0-litre V8 and a 526-horsepower 5.2-litre V8 in between. The Bullitt uses a 5.0-litre V8 with 480 horsepower and a six-speed manual only.
• Safety package: The car includes a reversing camera and MyKey as standard, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is part of the optional Electronics Package. Advanced safety features are not standard.
• Infotainment: The Sync 3 system uses an 8-inch touchscreen, supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and can be paired with a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. The review also notes that the system is starting to feel dated.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder EcoBoost returns 11.2 L/100 km in the city, 7.3 on the highway, and 9.4 combined. The Bullitt sits at 16.4/10.2/13.6 L/100 km, while the Shelby GT500 returns 19.9/12.7/16.7 L/100 km.

Which 2020 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Mustang is offered in 1 trim level: Bullitt.

Here's the short version:

The Bullitt is the clear choice if you want the Mustang’s special-edition styling, extra power, and manual-transmission character in one package. It suits you best if you value heritage, sound, and driver involvement more than everyday practicality.

The safety package is limited on this model, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, make sure the optional Electronics Package is included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers: there is inventory to choose from, but the best-priced examples still deserve quick attention.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 175 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.50% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,937 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $35,300 CAD sits slightly below last year's $39,007 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also temper future resale gains if you sell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well and avoid overpaying today, because that gives you more room to preserve value later.

The Mustang’s strong enthusiast appeal helps support demand, especially for shoppers who want performance and style in a recognisable nameplate. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than ordinary used sports cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2020 Ford Mustang gets Good ratings in most IIHS crashworthiness tests, with an Acceptable rating for driver protection in a small overlap frontal-impact collision. It earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test, including rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Mustang includes a reversing camera and MyKey as standard, and 911 Assist is available if your smartphone is paired and has signal after a collision. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available through the optional Electronics Package.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should check carefully whether a used example has the optional driver-assistance equipment you want.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Ford’s Bullitt special edition gives this year a nostalgic, performance-focused character with extra power and a manual-only setup.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $30,288 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $35,300 CAD average.
• It leans heavily into the Bullitt’s movie-inspired styling and special-edition appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market value story and a well-liked special-edition Mustang, the 2020 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2019 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Bullitt’s core appeal.
