The 2019 RAM 1500 stands out because it was completely redesigned for the first time since Ram became a stand-alone brand. That redesign brought an updated frame, mild hybrid technology, and a comprehensively new interior with FCA’s latest infotainment and driver assistance technology. It also marked a shift to extended and crew-cab models only, so there are no single-cab versions. For buyers who value a full-size pickup that feels more refined than most, that combination of road manners and cabin polish is a major part of its appeal.
Mechanically, the 2019 RAM 1500 paired both engines with the eTorque mild hybrid system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 was rated at 305 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque, while the 5.7-litre Hemi V8 produced 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Maximum payload and towing capacity rose to 1,043 kilograms and 5,783 kilograms, respectively. A 12-inch touchscreen was available, as was a 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, and advanced driver aids such as adaptive cruise control were also available, although most were part of an extra-cost package.
There are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. The Ram’s tow ratings tend to lag the competition, and advanced driver aids are only offered on higher trims. Even so, the 2019 RAM 1500 earned Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ designations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety from 2019 to 2023, which adds to its appeal as a well-rounded used pickup.
