Summary
With 165 currently listed for sale near Hamilton, ON and an average price of $11,539 CAD, 26.7% of 2019 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Hyundai Elantra 4.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
Freshened up for 2019, the Hyundai Elantra remains an incredible value among compact sedans, but its updates do not address the car’s ho-hum driving dynamics. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a lot of car for the money, but less compelling if engaging road manners are a priority.
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is also described as updated and upgraded, yet the overall impression is that satisfaction depends heavily on whether the driving experience works for you. The source singles out the turbocharged Sport trim as the exception, suggesting that this version is the one most likely to satisfy buyers looking for a more rewarding drive.

I think the features on this car is amazing and it is a great value. It is a good size, economical, just enough power and just enough weight to be stable and a fun little car to drive around the area when running errands or the quarterly work meeting, or just to the dog park and hanging with friends. It's nice looking, and a bit loud on the road sometimes but nothing a little sound barrier lining can't fix... or shocks.

This car was a good value. It has good acceleration and a quiet interior. Personally, I like the styling of this model better than the current model year.

The features are impeccable. I love that it has three different types of “drive”, I love all of the assist features, and the trunk is really big for a Saran plus the back seats can come down! I got the best deal I could find on this car and I got it in the color I wanted. I love it. The only thing I dislike is how low the ceiling is. The seat can lower but it still feels a little strange.

| Year-Round High | $15,473 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,425 CAD |

There are 461 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Cost effectiveness and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its impressive features, smooth acceleration, and comfortable interior. The spacious trunk and driving assist features also stand out, which makes it a strong fit for daily errands and longer trips. In practical terms, the Elantra suits you best if you want a lot of car for the money rather than a sporty driving experience.
With 28.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value in the market.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car people can count on for everyday use, with a dependable-feeling cabin, smooth operation, and strong value for routine driving. The expert assessment also describes it as a very nice car exuding quality and value, and notes that it won’t cause you much aggravation. Hyundai’s five-year or 100,000-kilometre bumper-to-bumper and powertrain coverage, plus five years of roadside assistance, further support confidence in long-term ownership.
For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s modest driving character and road noise will suit your expectations over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The sedan is sold as Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Sport, and Ultimate trims. The base Essential is the most stripped-down version, while Preferred adds more everyday convenience and safety equipment. Luxury brings more comfort and connected features, and Ultimate is the most fully equipped with the strongest feature set. If you want the best value, Preferred is the trim that most clearly balances equipment and price.
- Powertrain: Most versions use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque, paired with front-wheel drive. A six-speed automatic is standard on higher trims, while the six-speed manual is standard on Essential and Preferred. The Sport trim is the zesty exception if you want a more engaging drive.
- Safety package: Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist start on Preferred. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system can be added through the Sun and Safety Package, and those features are standard on higher trims. Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian-detection braking, and Safe Exit Assist.
- Infotainment: A rear-view camera and Bluetooth are standard. Any version above Essential gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Luxury adds satellite radio, while Ultimate upgrades to an 8-inch display, navigation, and an Infinity premium sound system with Clari-Fi digital music restoration technology.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the Elantra uses 7.4 L/100 km in combined driving with the automatic transmission, or 8.0 L/100 km with the six-speed manual.
Which 2019 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Luxury, Sport, and Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point, but it is the most basic version and misses out on the broader convenience and safety equipment found higher up the range. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible purchase price.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the features many buyers will actually use, while staying below the more expensive luxury-focused versions. It is the trim to target if you want a balanced used Elantra.
- Luxury: Choose this if you want more comfort and connected features, including satellite radio and access to the available safety package. It is a good middle ground if you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to Ultimate.
- Sport: This is the trim to consider if you care most about the more rewarding driving character mentioned in the expert summary. It stands apart from the rest of the range for buyers who want the most engaging version.
- Ultimate: This is the most fully equipped Elantra, with the biggest infotainment upgrade and the most advanced safety and convenience features. It suits you best if you want the highest feature content and are willing to pay for it.
The safety-package features begin on Preferred, while the most advanced driver-assistance equipment is reserved for Ultimate.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 461 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.21% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $12,717 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $12,770 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,425 CAD.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Elantra easier to buy now but less lucrative to sell later. If you own one, the softer pricing environment means you may need to be more competitive when listing it. On the other hand, the model’s value-oriented reputation and broad appeal can still help support demand among used-car shoppers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra gets top marks across the board from IIHS, except for an Acceptable rating for the accessibility of its LATCH child-seat anchors, and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, thanks to four-star frontal-impact results combined with a four-star side-impact protection rating for rear-seat occupants.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety story is strong for a compact sedan. Preferred adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-monitoring system are available through the Sun and Safety Package and standard on higher trims. Ultimate adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian-detection braking, and Safe Exit Assist.
The main caveat is that the LATCH anchor accessibility result is weaker than the rest of the crash-test performance, so you should pay attention if you plan to install child seats regularly.
Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.21% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 stands out for its updated styling, strong value, and the turbocharged Sport trim as the most rewarding drive.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $14,987 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $12,770 CAD average.
- It adds improved fuel efficiency ratings and newly packaged safety features.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2019 if you want the better price and a well-equipped compact sedan with strong value. If you are willing to pay more for a later model with added safety packaging and efficiency updates, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
