What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the only trim that can be had without Honda Sensing in Canada, and it also stands out as the base model with standard 17-inch wheels, while higher trims get 18-inch wheels and more equipment.
• Powertrain: Every Canadian trim uses the turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT, and the AWD system is tuned for slippery conditions rather than off-roading.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard on all CR-Vs except the base LX FWD trim, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, text messaging capability, and HondaLink connected services; Touring adds navigation and a premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test loop returned 10.2 L/100 km, versus a Natural Resources Canada expectation of 8.0 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2019 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value-focused starting point, but you should note that it is the only trim that can be had without Honda Sensing in Canada. If you want the lowest entry price and can live with fewer standard safety features, this is the one to inspect carefully.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the CR-V’s core strengths intact. It also gets the larger 18-inch wheels and the standard Honda Sensing suite.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and more convenience features without jumping all the way to the top trim. It builds on the EX with a richer equipment mix.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, adding navigation, a premium audio system, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It’s the one to consider if you want the most complete feature set.

Honda Sensing is standard on all trims except the base LX FWD trim, so that’s the key safety-package note to keep in mind.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda CR-V?

You’re in a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 748 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.76% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,262 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $22,466 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,051 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle well maintained, you may be better positioned when it’s time to sell. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, especially for a model with a reputation for practicality and reliability.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2019 Honda CR-V is a Top Safety Pick according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earns a five-star safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite on all CR-Vs except the base LX FWD trim, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and road-departure mitigation. Automatic high beams are also equipped, and Touring adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The main caveat is headlight performance: an Acceptable rating keeps it from reaching the higher Top Safety Pick Plus designation.

Should I buy a 2019 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It remains a refined, roomy, and historically reliable compact SUV with strong everyday appeal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,245 CAD, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,466 CAD average.
• It adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel efficiency.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2019 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for the newer model’s upgrades, the 2020 is the better pick; otherwise, the 2019 gives you the stronger price-to-utility balance.
