What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim is the most basic version, while the SV adds more equipment and the SL brings the most upscale feel. Lower trims use coarser fabric and harder plastics, while the SL gets padded leather trim on the centre console, armrests, and dash, plus ribbed stitching on the seat inserts. The SL also stands out because ProPilot Assist is only available there.
• Powertrain: Every Rogue uses a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque paired with an Xtronic CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard on the S and SV, while all-wheel drive is optional on those trims and standard on the rest.
• Safety package: The Rogue includes blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, and a rear-view camera as standard equipment. The 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are available on lower trims, and ProPilot Assist is only offered on the SL.
• Infotainment: The 2018 Rogue’s infotainment system was redesigned for this model year, and Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. It also gets a customizable home screen, and NissanConnect adds telematics features such as remote unlocking and automatic 911 notifications.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel consumption at 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.0 L/100 km highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined for front-wheel-drive models, while all-wheel-drive versions are rated at 9.7 L/100 km city, 7.4 L/100 km highway, and 8.7 L/100 km combined.

Which 2018 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, Midnight Edition, SL, and SL Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Rogue’s core practicality and standard safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra polish and convenience features found higher up.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying close to the Rogue’s sweet spot in pricing. It’s the trim to focus on if you want a well-equipped used Rogue without stretching to the pricier luxury-leaning versions.
• Midnight Edition: This is an SV with a blacked-out look, so it suits you if appearance matters and you want a more distinctive style without moving all the way to the top trims.
• SL: This is the trim to buy if you want the Rogue’s most advanced technology and upscale feel. It’s the only trim with ProPilot Assist available, and it brings the richest interior treatment in the lineup.
• SL Platinum: This is the most lavish version, but it is best for shoppers who want the fully loaded experience and are willing to pay for it.

Blind-spot monitoring is standard, and ProPilot Assist is only available on the SL.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings and wait for the right example.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 533 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.30% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,708 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $14,747 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,009 CAD.

That price decline suggests the Rogue has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for a future seller to attract interest if the vehicle is well maintained. The current market also shows that shoppers are still willing to consider this model year, especially when the price is positioned competitively against similar compact SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2018 Rogue earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash tests, but three-star and four-star ratings in the front-impact crash tests for the front passenger and driver, respectively. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates it a Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, a rear-view camera, and automatic emergency braking. ProPilot Assist is available only on the SL, and the 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are available on lower trims.

The mixed front-impact NHTSA results are the main caveat to keep in mind when you’re evaluating this model year.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For this year, the Rogue stands out for offering automated driver assists that rival the best from luxury automakers.

The bottom line: If you want a used Rogue with strong comfort, useful tech, and a softer asking price, the 2018 is a sensible place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may still want to compare nearby model years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge.
