What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lower-grade S and SV trims use darker colours, smaller wheels, and plain all-black cloth interiors, while the SL adds a more upscale feel with padded leather trim on the centre console, armrests, and dash, plus ribbed stitching on the seat inserts.
• Powertrain: You get a single 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, paired with an Xtronic CVT. Front-wheel drive is standard on the S and SV, while all-wheel drive is optional on those two trims and standard on the rest.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is Nissan’s semi-autonomous driving system, and it works with adaptive cruise control and the Rogue’s safety features. Blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, and a rear-view camera are standard, while the 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are available on lower trims.
• Infotainment: The 2018 Rogue gets a redesigned infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto standard. It also adds a customizable home screen, and NissanConnect brings telematics features such as remote unlocking and automatic 911 notifications.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates 9.2 L/100 km city, 7.0 L/100 km highway, and 8.2 L/100 km combined for front-wheel-drive models, while all-wheel-drive models are rated at 9.7 L/100 km city, 7.4 L/100 km highway, and 8.7 L/100 km combined. In testing, it averaged 9.8 L/100 km.

Which 2018 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2018 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, Midnight Edition, SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Rogue’s core practicality at the lowest starting price. It is the trim to consider if you want the most affordable way into the model and do not need the extra convenience and upscale touches found higher up.
• SV: This is the best-value trim. It sits in the sweet spot because it balances price and equipment well, and the expert assessment specifically points to the well-equipped AWD SV as the market sweet spot. If you want the Rogue’s comfort, space, and technology without stretching to the top end, this is the one to target.
• Midnight Edition: This is an SV with a blacked-out look, so it is mainly for you if styling matters more than adding major functional equipment.
• SL: This is the most upscale version, with the richest interior treatment and the available ProPilot Assist system. Choose it if you want the most advanced tech and the most premium feel in the lineup.

For safety equipment, blind-spot monitoring, Intelligent Trace Control, and a rear-view camera are standard, while the 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are available on lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 535 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.28% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $14,708 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $14,821 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,092 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you may need to be realistic about where your Rogue will land in the used market unless demand strengthens. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2018 Rogue earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA. It scored five-star ratings for all seat positions in side crash tests, while the front-impact crash tests scored three-star for the front passenger and four-star for the driver.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

ProPilot Assist is Nissan’s semi-autonomous driving system, and it works with adaptive cruise control and the Rogue’s safety features. Blind-spot monitoring is standard, as are Intelligent Trace Control and a rear-view camera. The 360-degree Around View Monitor cameras are available on lower trims.

Should I buy a 2018 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• For this year, the Rogue adds automated driver assists that rival the best from luxury automakers.

The bottom line: If you want a roomy, comfortable, and affordable compact SUV with strong tech and good owner satisfaction, the 2018 Rogue is the better buy when you find a well-priced example. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the market and focus on listings near the low end of the range, since the current pricing trend gives you room to be selective.
