CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mazda MAZDA3

Summary
With 251 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,911 CAD, 31.9% of 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 4.71 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 stands out because it blends compact-car practicality with a more stylish, driver-focused character than many mainstream rivals. Mazda’s formula here is about giving the Mazda3 a sleek design and an enjoyable driving experience while still keeping it affordable, and that balance is a big part of its appeal. It is also available as either a hatchback or a sedan, so buyers can choose the body style that suits them best.
For this generation, the Mazda3 moved further upmarket, with a hatchback that has coupe-like rear styling and an interior that is described as simple, sporty, and finished with high-quality materials. It also brought a strong equipment list, including alloy wheels, cruise control, LED headlights, advanced safety features, dual-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on most versions, and available Bose audio and electric driver’s seat adjustment on higher trims. All-wheel drive was available on some models, which adds to its versatility, and the model line-up was broad enough to include a turbocharged range-topper with 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, or 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft on regular fuel.
There are a few trade-offs. The hatchback’s tapered roof and window line reduce practicality and rear visibility a little, and owners have reported some air-conditioning issues. Even so, the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 remains appealing because it offers style, strong features, and a premium feel without losing the compact-car value proposition that has long defined the nameplate.

The features are very nice..for the trim level it would of been great with cooling seats and heated steering wheel..I would compare it to nicely equipped corolla, civic. The sport suspension is very stiff so if you want a car that rides smooth I wouldn't get a Mazda 3..may consider the Mazda 6

Fabulous car . . . lots of features make it a value for money pick. And not just features: its style and stance on the road is impressive - handles well and is a solid all around vehicle. Beyond that, it is SAFE. This 2018 Mazda 3 is a replacement for my PREVIOUS 2018 Mazda 3, which was totaled shortly after purchase when a guy ran a red light and plowed into me. Car was destroyed . . . I literally walked away unscathed. The car protected me from serious injury (or worse). It was only natural to try to replace our 2018 Mazda 3 with ANOTHER 2018 Mazda 3, and we were fortunate enough to be able to do that. Cannot say enough good things about this amazing vehicle.

I love this Mazda! Im giving it a 4, though, as the USBs are underpowered so they barely charge the phone, which is true of all these year Mazdas, nor does it have GPS navigation. There is an upgrade package which bumps up the USB power and adds support for Android Auto and Apple Car fur around $500. Id give this car a 5 if they had that as standard.

How much does the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,078 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,998 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $16,522 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,307 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.54% |
Prices have softened 7.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 226 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 a good car?
Yes — the 4.71/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its sporty feel, fuel efficiency, and reliable performance, while also valuing the handling and features you get for the price. For you, that makes it a smart fit if you want a compact car that balances everyday practicality with a more engaging personality and a more premium feel than many mainstream rivals. With 35.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to reliable performance, dependable day-to-day use, and a car that many people feel good about keeping for the long term. That said, some owners have mentioned minor issues like USB power concerns and air-conditioning problems, so you should still check service records and test all comfort and convenience features before buying. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about broad reliability and more about making sure any individual car has been maintained properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA3?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be patient and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 226 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.54% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,998 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?
The current average of $15,078 CAD sits slightly below last year's $16,307 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you are planning to sell soon. If you own one, the softer pricing means your resale value may not be as strong as it was a year ago, especially if your car is priced above the market average. On the other hand, the model’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to list.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.54% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 is a strong choice if you want a compact car that feels more engaging and upscale than many rivals, especially if you value its mix of style, equipment, and everyday usability. If you are price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby model years as well, but the 2018 stands out as a sensible target when you find a well-priced example with the features you want.
