CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mazda CX-3
Summary
With 145 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,356 CAD, 30.3% of 2018 Mazda CX-3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda CX-3 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda CX-3 stands out as a small crossover that leans heavily into Mazda’s sporty character. It was Mazda’s second subcompact SUV, and it did not immediately replace the smaller CX-3 that had been around since 2016. For buyers who want a compact vehicle with a premium feel, the CX-3’s appeal comes from its stylish design, fun-to-drive nature, and strong safety reputation.
What made the 2018 model especially distinctive was the way Mazda packaged its features across the trim range. The GX trim included 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with Mazda Connect, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moving up to GS brought the 2.5-litre engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, and a full suite of safety and driver-assistance features. The available Luxury package added leatherette upholstery, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, a power glass moonroof, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, while GT added a Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, a head-up display, leather seats, a power liftgate, paddle shifters, cylinder deactivation, and LED Signature illumination headlights and taillights.
There are trade-offs, though. The CX-3’s rear seat is cramped and cargo space is limited, so it is better suited to buyers who value style, handling, and a premium cabin over outright practicality. Even so, its compact footprint, available all-wheel drive, and upscale equipment helped make it feel more luxurious than its price might suggest.

I love all the car’s features and love how the ac works well in this heat. I think this car is a good value. The car is missing CarPlay.

Awesome compact AWD car. Extremely reliable and feels more like a luxury car than an affordable gas saver. Compared to Subaru or Honda, the Mazda feels like you’re sitting in a Mercedes than a Japanese car. Very affordable as well. Much cheaper than a Toyota, better reliability, and much better options. Mazda has definitely made its way into a higher tier of auto manufacturers.

| Year-Round High | $17,845 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,771 CAD |

There are 143 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice if you're comparing condition, mileage, and equipment.
Is the 2018 Mazda CX-3 a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its great handling, smooth ride, and attractive design, and many also like its compact size and AWD capability. The CX-3’s appeal is strongest if you want a small crossover with a premium feel and a more engaging drive, even though cargo space is limited. With 28.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Mazda CX-3 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers describing the CX-3 in positive terms over the long term. That kind of response suggests you can count on it as a used purchase if you prioritise confidence and consistency.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about satisfaction and more about whether the compact cabin and limited cargo space will still suit your needs over time.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda CX-3?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.
- Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 143 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.08% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $15,624 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mazda CX-3's resale value?
The current average of $16,335 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,771 CAD.
That price movement suggests the CX-3 has softened enough to give buyers a better entry point, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The model’s strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a stylish small crossover with a premium feel.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda CX-3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.08% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of owner satisfaction, current pricing, and a premium-feeling small crossover, the 2018 is the one to focus on. If your priority is simply finding the lowest entry price, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2018 stands out as a sensible primary target for shoppers who value handling, style, and a well-liked ownership experience.
