CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Kia Soul
Summary
With 17 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,999 CAD, 35.3% of 2018 Kia Soul listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Kia Soul 4.67 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Kia Soul stands out because it blends quirky styling with genuinely practical packaging. Kia’s buying guide describes the Soul as a subcompact hatchback with a boxy, distinctive shape, and it also notes that the model helped shift Kia’s image towards something more appealing while still value-conscious. For shoppers, that combination is a big part of the appeal: it is a small car with personality, but one that was designed to be useful rather than merely unusual.
For 2018, the Soul belonged to the second generation, and that generation kept the original formula while making it look neater and more SUV-like. The guide says the body had smoother sides, a higher front grille, and more balanced proportions, while the chassis was slightly longer, wider, and stiffer. It also notes a quieter cabin, suspension upgrades, and a tailgate that opened six centimetres higher for easier cargo access. Inside, the Soul offered 532 litres of cargo space, along with upgraded interior materials and circular design details that gave it a more polished feel. In Canada, the 2018 model lost its manual transmission as well as the base configuration it came with, and forward emergency braking and adaptive cruise control became optional.
The 2018 Soul also had enough equipment to feel well thought out for the money. The guide lists standard Bluetooth, heated mirrors, power windows and locks, and a six-speaker stereo on base LX models, while higher trims added features such as heated front seats, roof rails, keyless entry, cruise control, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, and a rear-view camera. At the same time, the buying guide is clear that earlier models were slow, and owner feedback for the 2018 Kia Soul points to a few practical annoyances, including limited space between the accelerator and brake pedals and the absence of a spare tyre. Even so, its mix of value, room, and distinctive character is what makes it memorable.

Its a great car for the price! However, there could be more space between the accelerator and brake pedals, and some features that work automatically (for safetys sake) in other cars do not on this car.

I loved it but its missing a spare tire and I opted for an SUV with more comfort. I do love the style but it is a small car.

How much does the 2018 Kia Soul cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,818 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $11,433 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $13,375 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,351 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.48% |
Prices have softened 11.48% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 130 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Kia Soul a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Kia Soul earns a 4.67/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its reliability and great value for the price, and many also highlight its enjoyable style and features. That fits the Soul’s role as a practical subcompact hatchback with quirky styling, useful packaging, and a cabin designed to be more functional than flashy. With 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Kia Soul reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience as part of the appeal, alongside strong value for the price. That said, some drivers mention practical annoyances such as limited space between the accelerator and brake pedals and the absence of a spare tyre. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright dissatisfaction and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and suits your day-to-day needs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Kia Soul?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 130 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.48% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $11,433 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Kia Soul's resale value?
The current average of $11,818 CAD sits slightly below last year's $13,351 CAD.
That price movement suggests the 2018 Soul has softened enough to give buyers more leverage today, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, the lower entry cost can help offset some depreciation later. The Soul’s broad appeal as a practical, characterful small car should still support demand, especially among shoppers who value space and personality over a conventional hatchback shape.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Kia Soul or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.48% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, owner satisfaction, and current market softness, the 2018 is a sensible year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years and focus on whichever one gives you the cleanest history and the strongest asking price relative to condition.
