CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Jeep Compass

Summary
With 286 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,663 CAD, 27.3% of 2018 Jeep Compass listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Jeep Compass 4.36 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Jeep Compass stands out because it marked a major step forward for the model. It moved to a new chassis and Fiat-developed powertrain, and it was five centimetres shorter yet more than six centimetres wider than the previous version. Jeep also gave it more cargo space, with 801 litres behind the rear seats, while improving its tech, design, and interior quality enough to put it well ahead of its predecessor. For buyers who want a compact SUV with a distinctly Jeep character, that combination of added refinement and familiar branding is a big part of the appeal.
It also offers genuine capability that many rivals cannot match. The all-wheel drive system could send up to 100% of torque to the rear wheels, and Trailhawk trims included a low-range transfer case with a 20:1 ratio. The Trailhawk also brought all-terrain tyres, skid plates, a suspension lift, revised off-road suspension, and other off-road hardware. Fuel consumption was better than before as well, at 9.3 litres per 100 kilometres combined on FWD automatic trims or 9.5 L/100 km combined on AWD trims. At launch, the trim walk was broad, with Sport, North, Trailhawk, and Limited versions offering everything from a basic 5-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth to an 8.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The main drawback is that the engine did not match the rest of the package. The 2.4-litre inline-four was noisy, harsh, and slow, and the troublesome nine-speed automatic did not help. Even so, the 2018 Jeep Compass remains appealing because it blends improved space, better interior quality, useful technology, and real off-road ability in a way that gives it a clearer identity than many compact SUVs.

This car is just what we were looking for. It is loaded with options and is a great value. I would recommend others to consider it when looking for a SUV.

The fact that this car has more features than newer models due to the specific package of this one, I highly recommend! I have wanted this specific color for exterior and interior for a while, but was even more pleasantly surprised when it came with a panoramic sunroof, Apple CarPlay, Remote start and more. Very happy and think anyone else would love this car as well, even though it is an older model.

This vehicle is the limited trim and has more features than I was expecting. I have researched and compared it to the Subaru Forester, the Honda CR-V, the Toyota Rav 4 and for the price, it was the best deal. It is a very smooth ride and very comfortable, not to mention sporty looking.

How much does the 2018 Jeep Compass cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,693 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $15,646 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $18,369 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,369 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −14.57% |
Prices have softened 14.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 283 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Jeep Compass a good car?
Generally — the 4.36/5 user rating points to a model that many owners feel good about living with. Owners commonly praise its smooth ride, numerous features, and value for money, while also highlighting the 4x4 capability and interior upgrades. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a compact SUV with Jeep character, useful technology, and a more refined cabin than the previous generation. The market also shows 28.6% of listings as good or great deals, which adds some shopping flexibility.
Is the 2018 Jeep Compass reliable?
Owners rate it 4.36/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that many people find dependable in day-to-day use, with praise for its smooth ride and value over time. That said, the same feedback also reflects concerns about power and acceleration, so your long-term ownership experience may depend on whether you prioritise comfort and capability over performance. For used buyers, the main risk is choosing a vehicle whose condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Jeep Compass?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 283 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.57% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $15,646 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Jeep Compass's resale value?
The current average of $15,693 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,369 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Compass more approachable for you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means resale expectations should stay realistic unless the vehicle is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean. The current pricing also suggests there may be less room for appreciation in the near term, so condition and mileage will matter a lot when it comes time to sell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.36/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Jeep Compass or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger value proposition, the 2018 is the better primary target because pricing has eased and there are enough listings to compare carefully. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also keep an eye on nearby model years, but the 2018 gives you a good balance of owner satisfaction, market availability, and softened pricing.
