CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Hyundai Tucson
Summary
With 163 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,475 CAD, 36.8% of 2018 Hyundai Tucson listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Hyundai Tucson 4.6 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Hyundai Tucson stands out as a compact SUV that gives shoppers a lot of equipment for the money while still feeling practical and easy to live with. It sits in the third generation, which brought a more refined look, a larger body, and more cargo capacity than before, and that broader improvement in space and polish is part of what made this Tucson appealing. Owners also tend to value its comfort, quiet ride, and strong mix of value and available technology.
For 2018, the Tucson’s available powertrains included a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 164 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, plus a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive was standard, with all-wheel drive available on most lower trims and standard on higher trims. The turbocharged version could accelerate to 100 km/h in about eight seconds, but the dual-clutch transmission could stumble and hesitate at low speeds, and the base engine was noticeably slower to reach highway speeds. Even so, the Tucson’s sharper handling helped it distinguish itself from many rivals.
Equipment was a major part of the appeal. In Canada, the 2018 Tucson was offered in five trim levels, and the base model included heated front seats, a 5-inch infotainment touchscreen, satellite radio, Bluetooth, and a USB port with an iPod/iPhone interface. Higher trims added features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear vents, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and, on some versions, a panoramic sunroof and leather upholstery. The main drawbacks were the modest performance from the base engine and the occasional hesitation from the dual-clutch transmission, but for buyers who wanted a well-equipped small SUV with a comfortable ride and strong value, the 2018 Hyundai Tucson was an easy one to consider.

How much does the 2018 Hyundai Tucson cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,455 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,455 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,042 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,042 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −15.18% |
Prices have softened 15.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 592 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2018 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, and value for money, and they also like the quiet ride and the available technology. That makes it a sensible fit if you want a practical compact SUV that is easy to live with and well equipped for the money. With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you should have some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable and easy to count on over time, especially when it comes to everyday comfort and usability. The strongest praise centres on the Tucson’s long-term livability, while the main caution is that some drivers have been less happy with engine performance. For used buyers, that means reliability risk is more about choosing a well-kept example than expecting a broad pattern of major ownership trouble.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Hyundai Tucson?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 592 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.18% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,455 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $14,455 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,042 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Tucson has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it a tougher vehicle for a future seller to command top dollar in the short term. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. The good news is that steady owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.18% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2018 Tucson is the better pick if you want a well-equipped compact SUV with strong owner approval and a softer used-market price. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may still make sense, but the 2018 stands out as a balanced choice when comfort, value, and shopping leverage matter most.
