Is the 2018 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.7/5 user rating, which supports its appeal as a small SUV with personality, available all-wheel drive, and more features than many rivals at a reasonable price. In Canada, it launched with five trim levels, and even the mainstream versions came with heated front seats, keyless entry, a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system. That makes it a practical fit if you want a well-equipped subcompact SUV without moving up to a larger vehicle.

There are 31.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2018 Hyundai Kona’s straightforward 2.0-litre four-cylinder setup in the Essential, Preferred, and Luxury trims, along with its available all-wheel drive, points to a simple, mainstream ownership profile rather than a highly complex one. Its strongest appeal is that it combines useful equipment with a compact footprint, while its main drawbacks are a cramped cabin and limited cargo space.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that you may outgrow the interior packaging sooner than you expect.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Hyundai Kona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the best-priced examples.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 165 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.09% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $15,049 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $15,306 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,816 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Kona has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is equipped relative to similar listings. The good news is that the model’s broad appeal and feature content should help it remain easy to shop in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2018 Kona is a sensible choice if you want a well-equipped subcompact SUV with distinctive styling and you value current pricing that has softened meaningfully. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still be worth comparing, but the 2018 is the better path when you want a balance of equipment, availability, and value.
