What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford F-150?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is a true work truck with plastic bumpers, cloth seats, steel wheels, a reversing camera, and an auxiliary jack, while the XLT adds power windows and locks, a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, 17-inch aluminium wheels, and chrome bumpers. The Lariat adds leather-trimmed front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone electronic temperature control, Sync 3, an 8-inch advanced trip computer, ambient lighting, and push-button start. The King Ranch adds unique leather bucket seats, a two-tone paint scheme, heated rear seats, and a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. The Platinum adds a unique grille, 20-inch polished aluminium wheels, genuine wood interior accents, and voice-activated navigation. The Limited adds a panoramic sunroof, power sliding rear window, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and massaging front seats.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 3.3-litre V6, a 2.7-litre EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6, a 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, and a 5.0-litre V8, with an available 3.0-litre Power Stroke turbodiesel V6 as well. The base 3.3-litre V6 uses a six-speed automatic, while the other engines use a 10-speed transmission. Rear-wheel drive and available four-wheel drive are both offered, and the lightweight aluminium construction helps the truck feel nimble.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, tire-pressure monitoring system, traction control, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. A 360-degree camera is standard on the Limited and available on the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Raptor. Forward-collision warning and avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control are standard on the Limited and available on other models. Which 2018 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most basic work-truck choice, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry point and can live without many comfort features. It does at least include a reversing camera and an auxiliary jack, but it is clearly the stripped-down option.
• XLT: This is the better everyday pick if you want a meaningful step up from the XL without jumping into luxury pricing. You get power windows and locks, Bluetooth, a USB port, 17-inch aluminium wheels, and chrome bumpers, which makes it the best-value trim for many shoppers.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin and the strongest mix of comfort and tech before prices climb sharply. Heated and ventilated front seats, leather trim, Sync 3, and push-button start make it a strong all-rounder.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more distinctive premium feel, with unique leather bucket seats, heated rear seats, and a premium audio system. It is a better fit if cabin character matters more to you than keeping costs in check.
• Platinum: This trim leans into style and convenience with a more polished appearance, wood accents, and navigation. It suits you if you want a high-end truck without going all the way to the Limited.
• Raptor: This is the off-road-focused choice, with skid plates, a unique bumper design, and larger fender flares. It is the right pick if trail use matters more than fuel economy or luxury polish.
• Limited: This is the top-end luxury choice, with a panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, massaging front seats, and nearly every major option package already included. It is the best fit if you want the most fully equipped version.

Safety equipment varies by trim, with the 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assistance features standard on the Limited and available on several other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 929 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.57% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $24,916 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $25,039 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,315 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the truck more attractive to buyers now but less favourable for sellers trying to maximise return. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means you may need to price competitively to stand out.

The good news is that strong demand for well-regarded trucks can help support resale over time, especially when the truck has the right equipment and condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford F-150 safe?

Standard safety features include a rear-view camera, tire-pressure monitoring system, traction control, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. Forward-collision warning and avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control are standard on the Limited and available on other models.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.57% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is described as one of the most well-rounded new pickups available, with best-in-class towing capability and strong fuel economy among full-size pickups.

The bottom line: The 2018 model is a strong choice if you want a full-size pickup that balances capability, efficiency, and everyday usability. If you are price-sensitive, the softer market and decent deal availability make this a good year to target, but you should still prioritise condition and equipment because higher-end examples can get expensive quickly.
