Which 2018 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-truck choice, with the fewest comforts but the lowest entry point. It makes sense if you want the basics and plan to keep costs down.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday equipment like power windows and locks, Bluetooth, a USB port, and upgraded exterior details without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather-trimmed front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, Sync 3, push-button start, and more comfort-focused equipment.
• King Ranch: This trim leans into premium style and comfort with unique leather bucket seats, a two-tone paint scheme, heated rear seats, and a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system.
• Platinum: This is the more polished luxury pick, with a unique grille, 20-inch polished aluminium wheels, wood interior accents, and voice-activated navigation.
• Raptor: This is the off-road-focused model, with a wider body, unique grille and bumper design, larger fender flares, skid plates, and beefed-up shocks.
• Limited: This is the top-end luxury choice, with nearly every major option package, a panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a massaging driver’s seat, and standard advanced safety equipment.

The Limited also gets the most complete safety package, including the 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assistance features as standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 26.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 890 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.71% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $24,868 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $24,877 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,498 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for a future seller to command top dollar unless the truck is especially well equipped or in excellent condition. If you buy now, you may benefit from the softer pricing, but resale gains could be more modest if the market stays at this level.

Trucks with strong owner satisfaction ratings often keep demand healthier over time, especially when they have a reputation for capability and reliability. That can help support resale value, even when broader prices have eased.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 26.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 stands out for being one of the most well-rounded full-size pickups, with best-in-class towing and strong fuel economy among full-size pickups.

The bottom line: If you want a used full-size pickup that balances capability, efficiency, and everyday usability, the 2018 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2018’s combination of owner satisfaction, broad trim range, and softened pricing makes it a compelling place to start.
