What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Ford F-150?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL is a true work truck with plastic bumpers, cloth seats, steel wheels, a reversing camera, and an auxiliary jack, while the XLT adds power windows and locks, a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, 17-inch aluminium wheels, and chrome bumpers. The Lariat brings leather-trimmed front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone electronic temperature control, Sync 3, and an 8-inch advanced trip computer. The King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited add progressively more premium or specialised equipment, with the Limited loaded with major options and the Raptor built for off-roading.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 3.3-litre V6, a 2.7-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, a 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6, and a 5.0-litre V8, with an available 3.0-litre Power Stroke turbodiesel V6. The base V6 uses a six-speed automatic, while the other engines use a 10-speed transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with available four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes a rear-view camera, tyre-pressure monitoring system, traction control, front- and side-impact airbags, and trailer sway control. A 360-degree camera is standard on the Limited and available on the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Raptor. Forward-collision warning and avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control are standard on the Limited and available on other models.
• Infotainment: The base XL has an AM/FM stereo with four speakers and an auxiliary audio input. The XLT adds the most basic version of Sync with Bluetooth connectivity. All other trims except the Raptor come standard with Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment, an 8-inch colour screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available Wi-Fi hotspot capability for up to 10 devices.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient gas-powered setup is the 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 with the 10-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive, at 11.9 L/100 km city, 9.0 highway, and 10.6 combined. The Limited with the V6 and 4WD returns 14.3 city, 10.5 highway, and 12.6 combined. The Raptor returns 15.6 city, 13.2 highway, and 14.5 combined.

Which 2018 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry into the lineup and can live with very basic equipment.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds power windows and locks, Bluetooth, a USB port, and nicer exterior details without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more comfortable daily driver, thanks to leather-trimmed front seats, heated and ventilated front seats, Sync 3, and more convenience features.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin with unique leather bucket seats, heated rear seats, a two-tone paint scheme, and premium audio.
• Platinum: This trim suits you if style matters, with its unique grille, 20-inch polished aluminium wheels, wood interior accents, and navigation.
• Raptor: Pick this only if you want the off-road-focused model, since it is built for trail use with a wider body, unique grille, skid plates, and beefed-up shocks.
• Limited: This is the top luxury choice, with nearly every major option selected, including a panoramic sunroof, power sliding rear window, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, and massaging front seats.

The safety package is strongest on the Limited, where the 360-degree camera and advanced driver-assistance features are standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 851 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.25% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $25,035 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $25,035 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,529 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour as a buyer now, but it also means future sellers may face more competition if the market stays loose. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation later. Higher-trim trucks with desirable equipment can also be easier to position when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2018 Ford F-150 earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a rear-view camera, tyre-pressure monitoring system, traction control, front- and side-impact airbags, and trailer sway control. The 360-degree camera is standard on the Limited and available on the Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Raptor. Forward-collision warning and avoidance with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control are standard on the Limited and available on other models.

The main safety caveat is that several advanced driver-assistance features are not standard across the range, so you need to move up the trim ladder if you want the fullest safety package.

Should I buy a 2018 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is described as a well-rounded full-size pickup that is efficient, capable, and civil enough for daily driving.

The bottom line: If you want a used full-size pickup that balances towing strength, efficiency, and everyday usability, the 2018 is the right direction to focus on. If you are more price-sensitive, keep an eye on lower-priced listings and compare condition carefully, since the market still offers enough inventory to be selective.
