CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Chevrolet Traverse
Summary
With 84 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,794 CAD, 28.6% of 2018 Chevrolet Traverse listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse 4.73 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse stands out as a family-focused crossover that puts space first. Chevrolet redesigned it for the 2018 model year, giving it a more muscular, truck-like look, a longer wheelbase, and a lighter body than before. It also brought new tech and new engines, while keeping the Traverse’s core appeal intact: a huge three-row cabin and the kind of room that makes it especially useful for families and gear.
For Canadian buyers, the 2018 Traverse came exclusively with a 3.6-litre V6 rated at 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. It was paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the model’s standard equipment included front-wheel drive early in the generation. The Traverse also earned points for its easy-to-use technology, with a standard 7-inch colour touchscreen, an optional 8-inch unit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, six USB inputs, three-zone automatic climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start. Its cargo space was another major strength, with 2,780 litres available when all the seats were folded.
There are a few trade-offs, though. The 2018 model was noted for engine and electrical problems, and the Traverse was not as plush or luxurious as some rivals. Even so, it remained appealing because it offered more room than many alternatives and delivered a solid mix of comfort, convenience, and value for families who wanted a large SUV without moving up to something heavier or more expensive.

First off, Im a lover of SUVs. I choose the Traverse because its big but not too big like the Tahoe or Suburban. I tend to stick with Chevrolet models. I lucked out with the interior. Its premium jet black with great detailing. Im surprised that the Traverse doesnt have a sunroof/moonroof like my 2009 Chevrolet HHR did. If I want to plan a road trip, my friends and I can all just pile into my car because it has 3rd row seats. It is kinda hard for me to park if theres a car on both sides of an empty spot, but Im sure Ill just get the hang of that with practice. The gas tank size isnt that bad. Its about 17.2 gallons (at least my specific one). I also wouldnt mind a bigger compartment in between the drivers seat and the passengers seat. That way, I can put my purse in there to hide it. That was a great amenity to have in the 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe. Im really gonna love my heated seats during the winter. I love that I dont have to use a GPS mount on my windshield anymore. I can just plug in my phone with the USB, and Google Maps or Waze pops up on my dashboard via Apple CarPlay. Also, the trunk has a secret compartment to hold more items. Overall, I believe this car is of great value.

How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,793 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $18,766 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $22,380 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,751 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.40% |
Prices have softened 4.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 85 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse earns a 4.73/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, comfort, and impressive cargo space, and many also like the smooth ride and useful features such as the rearview camera. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a family-focused crossover with lots of room for people and gear. With 34.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still decent market opportunity if you shop carefully.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable everyday experience for many shoppers, with repeated praise for comfort, practicality, and value. That said, the model’s used-market appeal is best when you focus on well-maintained examples, since long-term ownership risk can rise if you buy a neglected vehicle.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Traverse?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you know what you want.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 85 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.40% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $18,766 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse's resale value?
The current average of $20,793 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,751 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more accessible for buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to protect value when it is time to sell. The current market also shows that demand is still present, but not so hot that you can expect a premium without the right trim, condition, and mileage.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Traverse with strong owner approval and a market that still offers some deal potential, the 2018 is a sensible choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the newest badge alone.
