Yes — the 2018 Audi Q5 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the luxurious interior, smooth driving experience, spacious rear seats, and strong safety features. Is the 2018 Audi Q5 reliable?

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels comfortable, dependable, and well suited to everyday use, with praise for its smooth driving experience and strong safety features. The expert review also describes it as an impressive all-rounder with improved driving dynamics and a refined character.

Audi’s standard equipment and safety technology help support confidence in daily use, and the available driver-assistance systems add another layer of reassurance. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about the isolated concerns some owners mention around ergonomics, shifting, and braking.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard Q5 comes in Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik trims. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more, since the higher trims add more of the premium equipment and technology that make this SUV feel special.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 252 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. The drivetrain includes a drive mode system with five settings, including an off-road mode, and the all-wheel drive can decouple the rear axle to help maximise fuel economy.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking that work below 80 km/h. Available driver assistance also includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, Traffic Jam Assist, and Vehicle Exit Assist. Some of these features are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: Bluetooth and a rearview camera are standard, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available. The MMI system uses a touchpad on the centre control knob, and Technik models add Audi Virtual Cockpit with a 12.3-inch digital display, embedded navigation with Google Earth imagery, and a full-colour head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The official combined fuel-consumption estimate is 9.6 L/100 km.

Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Komfort, Progressiv, Technik.

Here's the short version:

• Komfort: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Q5’s core strengths — standard AWD, leather seats, three-zone climate control, and key safety and driver-assistance technology — without stretching for extras.
• Progressiv: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it builds on the base model with more of the equipment and polish that suit the Q5’s luxury mission.
• Technik: Choose this if you want the most advanced cabin experience, including Audi Virtual Cockpit, the 12.3-inch digital display, embedded navigation with Google Earth imagery, Bang & Olufsen audio, and the full-colour head-up display.

Audi’s safety content also notes that some driver-assistance features are available rather than standard, so it’s worth checking exactly which systems are fitted on the trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi Q5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 356 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.40% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,312 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $19,312 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,827 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favourable if you’re planning to sell soon. A softer used-price environment usually means future sellers may need to price more aggressively to stand out.

Even so, the Q5’s strong reputation for comfort, technology, and safety should help it remain appealing to used shoppers. Well-equipped examples with desirable features are likely to hold attention better than stripped-down versions.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2018 Audi Q5 earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, and partial IIHS results give it top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking below 80 km/h, and the available safety suite also includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, Traffic Jam Assist, and Vehicle Exit Assist.

One caveat is that IIHS testing noted a Marginal headlight result on certain versions of the vehicle, so you should pay close attention to the lighting equipment on the specific Q5 you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Audi’s redesign brings the latest technology, improved performance and driving dynamics, more interior room, and a more refined overall character.

The bottom line: If you want the most modern-feeling Q5 in this generation, the 2018 is the one to target. It gives you the redesigned body, stronger tech, and the polished all-round character that owners respond to. If your priority is simply the lowest purchase price, a nearby model year may be worth a look, but the 2018 is the better pick if you want the most complete version of this SUV’s formula.
