What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Audi Q5?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Canadian lineup includes Komfort, Progressiv, and Technik. The base trim is well equipped, but the higher trims add more of the premium feel and technology that help the Q5 stand out.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. The system can decouple the rear axle to help maximise fuel economy, and the review notes a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds.
• Safety package: Audi Pre-Sense includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking below 80 km/h, while available features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist. Some of these features are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: Bluetooth and a rearview camera are standard on all models. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, and the MMI Touch system uses a touchpad on the centre control knob with handwriting recognition. Technik models add Audi Virtual Cockpit with a 12.3-inch digital display, plus a full-colour head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The review cites a Natural Resources Canada combined estimate of 9.6 litres per 100 kilometres, while the test vehicle returned 11.0 L/100 km.

Which 2018 Audi Q5 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Audi Q5 is offered in 3 trim levels: Komfort, Progressiv, Technik.

Here's the short version:

• Komfort: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core Q5 experience with standard AWD, leather seats, three-zone climate control, and important safety and driver-assistance technologies. It makes sense if you want the Q5’s fundamentals without paying for extras you may not need.
• Progressiv: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it builds on the base model with more of the premium equipment and a stronger overall luxury feel. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to focus on.
• Technik: Choose this if you want the most advanced cabin tech, including Audi Virtual Cockpit, the 12.3-inch digital display, the Bang & Olufsen premium Surround Sound system, and the full-colour head-up display. It suits you best if technology is a top priority.

The safety content also notes that some driver-assistance features are available rather than standard, so it’s worth checking exactly which systems are fitted on the trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Audi Q5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 361 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.33% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,378 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Audi Q5's resale value?

The current average of $19,381 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,889 CAD.

That price decline means future sellers may face a softer market than owners did a year ago. If you buy now, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than on broad market appreciation.

The good news is that the Q5’s strong reputation for comfort, technology, and premium feel should help it stay attractive to used buyers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment are likely to hold attention better than stripped-down or heavily worn ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.87/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Audi Q5 safe?

The 2018 Audi Q5 earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, and IIHS partial crash-test results give it top marks for moderate overlap frontal impact and side impact protection, with a Marginal rating for headlight performance on certain versions.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Audi Pre-Sense includes forward-collision detection and automatic emergency braking below 80 km/h, and the available driver-assistance list also includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and Vehicle Exit Assist. Some of these systems are available rather than standard, so trim choice matters.

The headlight result is the main caveat to keep in mind, especially if you drive often at night.

Should I buy a 2018 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.87/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year brings a completely redesigned Q5 with improved performance, more interior room, and a more sophisticated overall character.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Q5 with stronger technology, better refinement, and a solid market value story, the 2018 is the one to target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, you may also want to compare nearby years, but the 2018 stands out as the more modern and well-rounded choice.
