CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Subaru Legacy
Summary
With 56 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,354 CAD, 28.6% of 2017 Subaru Legacy listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Subaru Legacy 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Subaru Legacy stands out as a midsize sedan that makes all-wheel drive part of the package rather than an upgrade. In its generation, Subaru kept AWD standard across all models, and the Legacy also offered a more advanced and refined driving experience than before, with a quieter interior, a stiffer chassis, and better ride quality. It was also one of the more technically ambitious versions of the car, with EyeSight standard, a large 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included on the standard equipment list for this generation.
For 2017 specifically, the Legacy was available in Canada in Convenience, Touring, Limited, and Premier trims, with the top two GT-format trims getting the turbo engine. Standard equipment included adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control, LED headlights with automatic high beams, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and dual seven-inch centre touchscreens. The Touring trim added an 11.6-inch infotainment screen, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sunroof, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, and lane change assist. That mix of standard safety gear and useful comfort features helps explain why the Legacy appealed to buyers looking for a practical sedan with a strong safety focus.
There are still a few trade-offs. The Legacy’s styling was described as dull, its interior could feel cheap, and performance was considered sluggish. Even so, for shoppers who value standard AWD, a comfortable cabin, and a long list of safety and convenience features, the 2017 Subaru Legacy remains a distinctive choice in the used midsize sedan market.

For the year, the car has a great amount of modern features. Drives great in the snow, is comfortable with plenty of room, driver assistance features all worked as they should. The only thing missing is Apple CarPlay/android auto. You simply cannot compare anything to the Legacy. Maybe a BMW 5 Series. In terms of value - the legacy wins every time.

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for the car’s all-wheel drive, fuel efficiency, and high safety ratings. The current average of $13,377 CAD sits slightly below last year's $14,956 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit upside if you plan to sell soon. If you purchase at the right price, you may be better positioned to protect your value later. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

Choose the 2017 if:

- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
