CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Subaru Crosstrek

Summary
With 40 currently listed for sale near Laval, QC and an average price of $13,361 CAD, 27.5% of 2017 Subaru Crosstreks for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek 4.88 / 5 stars.
100.0% of 2017 Crosstrek models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Subaru Crosstrek stands out as a compact crossover that leans into practicality rather than flash. It offers Subaru’s familiar all-wheel drive, generous ground clearance, protective bodywork, and pedestal-style roof rails, giving it the kind of all-weather, light-duty versatility that suits daily use and occasional rough roads. It is also a simple vehicle at heart, with a four-cylinder boxer engine and either a manual or continuously variable transmission, which helps explain its reputation for straightforward ownership.
For 2017, the Crosstrek’s appeal is rooted in its usefulness and its balanced character. It seats four comfortably, with room for five if necessary, and provides between 631 and 1,469 litres of cargo space. The model year also brought blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, adding to its safety appeal. Owners commonly praise the 2017 Crosstrek for its safety features, smooth handling, comfort, reliability, and fuel efficiency, which makes it an easy fit for everyday driving.
Its main drawback is performance. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine makes 148 horsepower, and acceleration is not its strong suit. The continuously variable transmission can also add noise without much sense of urgency. Even so, the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek remains distinctive because it combines rugged-looking capability, strong practicality, and a reputation for dependable, economical use in a small package.

Reviewed a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek on Apr 19, 2023
The car is very new for me, and Ive driven only about 250 miles so far, but so far I am happy because the car is both capable and has some personality. Mine is crystal white with black leather interior and I love the appearance. It makes me feel happy to walk up to it in the parking lot because it is really cute, and the interior is also attractive. The orange stitching on the seats give the interior a little style; the navigation is bright and clear; and the moonroof keeps it feeling open and airy inside; and the interior is overall logical. The handling is excellent. Ive driven in snow on roads where some cars are sliding and my car was driving along just fine. I havent had issues with acceleration and have been driving 65 mph on the highway without problems. The gas mileage seems quite good and the gas tank seems to be big enough as I still have half a tank of gas after going about 250 miles. The Eyesight and other safety features also give me a feeling of security. Visibility is also great. There are just a few negatives that Ive noticed so far. The biggest negative Ive noticed is that the bottom cushion of the drivers seat is too hard. The back of the seat and headrest are actually very comfortable so its really just the bottom. I also wish that the seat could be adjusted electrically instead of manually. The other thing that I would change is the placement of the buttons for the seat warmers. When driving, I have to reach behind and feel around to try to find it or look back for it. Other than the padding in the bottom of the seat, the lack of electric adjustment to the seat and the placement of the heat seater button, I really am happy with this beautiful and capable car. 7/6/17 Update: I continue to be very happy with my car. I love driving it. I like the adaptive cruise control on the highway as well as the little beeper that lets me know if the car in front of me moves when waiting at a traffic light for a while. The seats even became much more comfortable after a few months of use. I have, however, had a few issues with the connection to Audible on my iphone dropping and I really dont know why this happens. Overall, though, very happy with my car and would buy the exact same car if I were to do it again!

I love this car! It has amazing safety features such as blind spot detection, lane departure warning, and brake assist. Not to mention, its got great handling in the snow. It drives really smooth too. Definitely recommend this car to those interested in a Subaru!

We did purchase this car 2 weeks ago. So far so good. Comfortable and easy on gas. It’s all about the reliability with a Subaru, so fingers crossed we can get a few years out of this cross trek.

2017 Subaru Crosstrek Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2017 Subaru Crosstrek prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,663 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,359 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $17,766 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,391 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −15.68% |
Prices have softened 15.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 124 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.88/5, which points to strong overall satisfaction. The recurring positives in owner feedback are the safety features, smooth handling, comfort, reliability, and fuel efficiency. That lines up well with the Crosstrek’s practical, all-weather, light-duty versatility and its usefulness for everyday driving, especially if you want a compact crossover that prioritises function over flash. With 37.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and many drivers describe it as a dependable choice for everyday use. The same reviews also highlight fuel efficiency and a generally trouble-free ownership experience, which supports the Crosstrek’s reputation for straightforward, long-term use. For used buyers, that suggests lower ownership risk if you choose a well-maintained example and verify service history carefully.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Subaru Crosstrek?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 124 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.68% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,359 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?
The current average of $14,663 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,391 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price more competitively to stand out. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position may be more stable than if you paid closer to the year-round high. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when you eventually sell, especially for shoppers who value practicality and reliability.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.68% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want a practical, well-liked Crosstrek with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-market price. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, a nearby year with a lower asking price may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains a sensible primary target if you value a balanced mix of usefulness, reliability, and market value.
