CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC
Summary
With 13 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,888 CAD, 38.5% of 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC 4.9 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC stands out as a compact luxury SUV that blends style, comfort, and practicality in a way that feels distinctly Mercedes-Benz. It shares many parts with the C-Class sedan and wagon, and its shape is longer and far sleeker than the GLK it replaced, giving it a more polished look and a more usable cabin. It is also a five-seat SUV with standard 4Matic all-wheel drive in Canada, which helps make it appealing to buyers who want a premium vehicle that feels secure and well-rounded in everyday use.
What makes the 2017 model especially attractive is how much it offers without feeling overly complicated. The lineup is small, but it includes the GLC 300 with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 241 horsepower, the AMG GLC 43 with a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 making 362 horsepower, and the GLC 350e plug-in hybrid with a total system output of 320 hp. The GLC Coupe also joined the range in 2017, giving shoppers a more rakish alternative without giving up much practicality. Owners and test drivers alike tend to praise the comfortable ride, smooth performance, and strong safety feel, especially on longer trips.
There are some drawbacks to keep in mind. The GLC does not have a standout reliability reputation, and owners have reported suspension, electrical, piston, and cylinder issues. It is also not the most exciting SUV to drive, and some versions can be expensive. Even so, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC remains appealing because it delivers a premium cabin, useful space, and a calm, refined driving experience in a package that still looks good today.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC a good car?
Yes — 4.9/5 is a strong user rating, and the feedback points to a comfortable ride, smooth performance, and appealing features. You also get a premium cabin feel, useful space, and a calm, refined driving experience that suits everyday use and longer trips. With the GLC positioned as a compact luxury SUV, it makes sense if you want a polished, practical vehicle with a premium feel. 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC reliable?
Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback also highlights reliability concerns, including significant mechanical problems in some ownership experiences, so you should pay close attention to service history and inspection results. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth taking seriously even if the vehicle feels well liked overall.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 139 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.40% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $21,270 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?
The current average of $21,656 CAD sits slightly below last year's $25,301 CAD.
That softer pricing can be good news if you are buying now, but it also means a future seller may face more competition when it is time to list. The current market suggests the model is still desirable, yet not immune to depreciation pressure. If you plan to own it for a while, buying at the right price matters because resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 14.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should focus on the 2017 if you want a well-liked compact luxury SUV with a softer used price and enough inventory to compare examples carefully. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2017 remains the better fit when you want a balance of premium feel, strong owner approval, and current market value.
