The expert assessment also frames the C-Class as a model that does many things right for compact luxury buyers, which supports the idea that it can be a solid long-term choice if you stay on top of upkeep. Still, used buyers should budget carefully, since maintenance costs can be high and some models have reported fuel-line concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin presentation changes with equipment, and the Luxury version swaps in a thinner upright chrome grille and hood ornament, while the Sport package brings a more aggressive look. You should pay close attention to whether the car has the features you want, because the base setup is more restrained than better-equipped versions.
• Powertrain: The C300 uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed automatic. It is standard with all-wheel drive in Canada, and the car is tuned for a mix of calm commuting and confident passing.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, an attention monitor, and rain-drying brake logic. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch central screen is standard with Bluetooth, HD Radio, and two USB ports. The upgraded system adds an 8.4-inch screen and navigation, and the interface includes voice recognition, an integrated owner’s manual, and custom shortcuts.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the C300 4Matic at 10.1 L/100 km city, 7.8 highway, and 9.1 combined. In testing, it averaged a calculated 10.2 L/100 km over more than 1,000 kilometres.

Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in 1 trim level: C300 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

The C300 4Matic: This is the trim you’ll see most often, and it gives you the core C-Class experience with the 2.0-litre turbo four, standard all-wheel drive in Canada, and a strong mix of comfort and performance. It suits you best if you want the mainstream version of the car without chasing AMG pricing or complexity.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, stability control, and rear side thorax-level airbags.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 314 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.52% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,569 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?

The current average of $22,617 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,772 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later.

For a future seller, the key is to recognise that the model’s value is being supported by its luxury badge, strong feature set, and broad appeal. A well-kept example with desirable equipment should still attract interest, but the softer market means you may need to price competitively.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class safe?

The 2017 C-Class has a five-star rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and top ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which tested a 2016 model and gave it the Top Safety Pick+ award.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes rear side thorax-level airbags, stability control that can compensate for crosswinds, forward-collision alert with auto-braking, Pre-Safe, and an attention monitor. Optional safety features include blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, pedestrian detection, cross-traffic alerts, and Pre-Safe Plus.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• More of the same is the point here: the 2017 model year keeps the C-Class formula of comfort, performance, price, and snob appeal intact.

The bottom line: If you want the classic C-Class mix of luxury feel, strong road manners, and broad market availability, the 2017 is a sensible target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also use the softer market to shop carefully and focus on the best-equipped example you can find rather than stretching for a newer year.
