CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Mazda CX-3

Summary
With 99 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,300 CAD, 29.3% of 2017 Mazda CX-3 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Mazda CX-3 4.67 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Mazda CX-3 stands out as a small crossover that leans heavily into Mazda’s sporty character. It was Mazda’s second subcompact SUV, and it did not immediately replace the smaller CX-3 that had been around since 2016. For buyers who want a compact vehicle with a more premium feel than many rivals, the CX-3’s appeal comes from its stylish design, fun-to-drive nature, and strong safety reputation.
What makes the 2017 model especially distinctive is the way Mazda equipped it. Standard features included 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry, and an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with Mazda Connect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The available trim structure also gave buyers a clear progression: the GS added the 2.5-litre engine, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air vents, and a broad set of driver-assistance features, while the GT brought a Bose 12-speaker audio system, a head-up display, leather seats, a power liftgate, and other upscale touches. That combination helped the CX-3 feel more polished than its size might suggest.
There are trade-offs, though. The CX-3’s rear seat is cramped, and it does not offer much cargo space. Even so, it can still make sense for shoppers who value Mazda’s premium interior feel and sporty driving experience in a small crossover package.

Its a good size car for a small family. If you are on the taller size. This car may not be good. The leg room in the back is not that spacious and the truck space is a bit lacking. But its a good car with many nice features.

Great ride. Smooth gear transitions. Comfortable. Nice lines; good looking. Great looking rims. I wish that the vehicle had power seats (surprising, given it has heated seats). I also miss the center console storage, and that the armrest in the center covers over the cup holders (awkward). The media dial takes some getting used to. Good sound system. Tricky blind spots, but the blind spot alert is a good assist. The trunk is very small, and it is not a power-open trunk. Yes: I would recommend this car. However, my next vehicle will be bigger, like the Mazda CX-5. Love the Mazda make. I’m happy.

Is the 2017 Mazda CX-3 a good car?
Yes — the 4.7/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. The 2017 Mazda CX-3 is aimed at you if you want a small crossover with a sporty feel, a more premium cabin than many rivals, and a clear focus on style and driving enjoyment. It also stands out for its standard equipment, including LED headlights, keyless entry, and an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with Mazda Connect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The trade-off is that it is less convincing if you need generous rear-seat room or cargo space.
With 26.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2017 Mazda CX-3 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Mazda’s emphasis on safety and a well-equipped cabin helps the CX-3 feel like a thoughtfully engineered small crossover, and its strong safety reputation is part of its appeal. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright complexity and more about whether the vehicle’s compact packaging still fits your day-to-day needs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mazda CX-3?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 99 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.90% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $13,203 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Mazda CX-3's resale value?
The current average of $13,407 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,572 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price carefully to stay competitive. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. The CX-3’s premium feel and sporty character can help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a small crossover with a more upscale personality.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Mazda CX-3 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 26.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.90% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the CX-3’s sporty feel, premium-leaning cabin, and strong value in today’s market, the 2017 is a sensible place to focus. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you should also compare nearby model years and look for the best-priced example with the equipment you want.
