The current average of $13,823 CAD sits slightly below last year's $15,862 CAD.

That softer pricing can be a mixed signal for future resale. On one hand, it may help you buy at a more attractive entry point today. On the other, it means a seller may face more competition if the market stays soft. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell, especially for shoppers looking for value and comfort.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a used SUV with strong owner satisfaction, a softer price trend, and a decent number of listings to compare, the 2017 is a sensible place to focus. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you may also want to compare nearby years to see whether a lower-priced alternative better fits your target payment.
