CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Pilot
Summary
With 32 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,164 CAD, 40.6% of 2017 Honda Pilot listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Pilot 4.77 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Pilot stands out as a practical three-row SUV that blends family-friendly space with a car-like ride. It was the first three-row mainstream SUV built on a unibody platform, and that design helped give it a more refined feel than a traditional truck-based SUV. Buyers also get seating for up to eight, though the third row is best suited to children or smaller adults, and cargo space becomes limited when that row is in use.
For 2017, the Pilot’s appeal is rooted in its mix of technology and safety. Honda added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration that year, and in Canada it was standard from the start. The model also offered Honda Sensing for the first time on the Pilot in 2016, bringing features such as automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist. Under the bonnet, it used a 3.5-litre V6 with direct injection that produced 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic in lower trims and a nine-speed automatic in upper trims.
There are trade-offs, though. The Pilot’s interior materials were regarded as cheap and the cabin unrefined, and its fuel economy is only average. Even so, the 2017 Honda Pilot remains appealing for shoppers who want a spacious, safety-focused family SUV with useful tech and a comfortable ride.

If you find a listing below $20,927 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda Pilot's resale value?
The current average of $21,237 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,424 CAD.
That decline suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if prices continue to soften. If you buy now, you may not see rapid appreciation, so resale value will depend more on condition, mileage, and maintenance than on market momentum alone. Well-kept examples should still hold interest because the Pilot remains a practical three-row SUV with broad family appeal.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.77/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.77/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a well-equipped, family-friendly three-row SUV with strong owner approval, the 2017 is the year to focus on. If your priority is stretching your budget further, you may want to compare nearby years and look for the best-priced example with a clean history and solid maintenance records.
