Is the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 4.3/5 user rating points to a truck that owners like, and the feedback consistently highlights power, a smooth ride, and a comfortable interior. That fits well if you want a full-size pickup with a more upscale feel, since the Sierra 1500 is aimed at buyers who value refinement alongside capability. Owners also frequently mention the range of features and overall value, especially relative to competitors. With 29.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a truck that can feel dependable and trouble-free for many drivers, with praise centred on its strong performance and comfortable day-to-day use. At the same time, some owners mention reliability concerns with certain engines, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that repair costs can rise quickly if you end up with a truck that has been poorly maintained or has unresolved drivetrain issues.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 GMC Sierra 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a meaningful chance to find a competitive offer.
• Inventory: There are 446 listings available, so you have enough supply to compare trims, mileage, and condition.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.64% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,557 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $22,557 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,387 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit upside if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means resale value will depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and trim appeal than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples should still attract interest, but you should expect buyers to be price-conscious.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a full-size pickup with a more upscale cabin feel and you can take advantage of the softer pricing. If you’re especially price-sensitive, it’s worth comparing nearby model years to see whether a similar truck offers a better entry price or a better-equipped trim for the money.
