Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Fusion stands out as a midsize sedan that blends sharp styling, strong road manners, and a wide spread of available technology. Ford’s second-generation Fusion was overhauled for the 2013 model year, and by 2017 it had already established itself as a car with striking looks, available all-wheel drive, and a plug-in hybrid option. It also gained a very potent 325-horsepower EcoBoost V6 during the car’s 2017 refresh, giving the Fusion Sport a serious performance edge over the rest of the range.
What makes the 2017 model especially appealing is how much equipment Ford had layered into the car by then. Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system was added in 2017, bringing Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and other features. The Fusion also offered a roomy cabin, with 973 millimetres of rear legroom and a 450-litre trunk, and the better-equipped versions could be loaded with features such as leather seating, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone climate controls, automatic high beams, and a power moonroof. For buyers who wanted a comfortable, well-equipped sedan that still handled confidently, the Fusion made a strong case.
There are a few trade-offs, though. The 2017 Ford Fusion’s non-hybrid gas models were not especially frugal, and the car was described as not as deluxe as its price tag suggests. Even so, its mix of style, space, available AWD, and a genuinely quick V6 helped it remain one of the more distinctive mainstream sedans of its time.
