CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Dodge Durango

Summary
With 76 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,518 CAD, 27.6% of 2017 Dodge Durango listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Dodge Durango 4.56 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Dodge Durango stands out as a three-row SUV that blends family-friendly space with a distinctly muscular character. In Canada, all-wheel drive is standard for the Durango’s entire third generation, and the standard seating arrangement is for seven passengers, which helps it appeal to buyers who want utility without giving up a more truck-like personality. It also benefits from the third generation’s crossover design, which made it more comfortable and easier to drive than the older, truck-based Durango.
For 2017, the Durango sits within a broad third-generation lineup that includes the Pentastar V6 and several Hemi V8 options, giving it a wide spread of performance choices. It can also be equipped with features such as leather seats, Nappa leather, a premium Harman Kardon audio system, lane departure warning, a backup camera, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. That mix of capability, technology, and available luxury equipment is a major part of its appeal, especially for shoppers who want an SUV that can feel both practical and upscale.
There are trade-offs, though. The earliest model years of this generation were affected by many recalls for issues including brake failure, problematic fuel pumps, and electrical and wiring problems, so a careful inspection matters. The Durango also has a reputation for poor fuel economy, and its overall reliability history is mixed. Even so, for buyers drawn to strong powertrains, seven-passenger seating, and a more distinctive alternative to the usual midsize SUV formula, the 2017 Dodge Durango remains an interesting choice.

It’s a great vehicle. I love the looks. I love the tow capacity: I love the features and room. The 3.6/8 speed is a great combo. But… the small offset crash rating is a disaster. And as a dad of teens it made me cross it off my list. Why hasn’t dodge addresses this? Even mitigated it?

How much does the 2017 Dodge Durango cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,539 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $19,226 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $21,606 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,606 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.57% |
Prices have softened 9.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 78 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2017 Dodge Durango a good car?
Yes — the 4.56/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. Owners consistently praise its powerful V8 engine, stylish design, spacious interior, smooth ride, and the range of features it can offer. For you, that makes it a compelling fit if you want a three-row SUV with family-friendly space and a more muscular personality than the usual midsize alternative. With 23.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in day-to-day use, especially when it comes to its strong powertrain and overall ownership experience. The same reviews also suggest it can be a trouble-free choice for buyers who value a long-term, satisfying SUV with plenty of capability. That said, used buyers should still budget time for a careful inspection, since any older SUV can carry maintenance risk over the long term.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Dodge Durango?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 23.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 78 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.57% compared with last year.
- If you find a listing below $19,226 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $19,539 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,606 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Durango easier to buy now but may also mean future resale gains are limited unless demand strengthens. If you plan to sell later, the softer pricing trend is a reminder that this model year is being valued more for current utility than for rapid appreciation. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 23.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a three-row SUV with strong owner approval, a distinctive character, and a market that still offers some deal potential, the 2017 is the one to focus on. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 remains the better pick when you want the strongest mix of satisfaction and current pricing.
