CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Dodge Durango
Summary
With 67 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,611 CAD, 19.4% of 2017 Dodge Durango listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Dodge Durango 4.6 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Dodge Durango stands out as a three-row SUV that blends family-friendly space with a distinctly muscular character. In Canada, all-wheel drive is standard for the Durango’s entire third generation, and the standard seating arrangement carries seven passengers, which helps it appeal to buyers who want utility without giving up a more performance-oriented feel. It also benefits from the third-generation move to a unibody crossover platform shared with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, a change that made it much more comfortable and easy to drive.
For 2017, the Durango’s powertrain range still included the base Pentastar V6 and 5.7-litre, 6.4-litre, and supercharged 6.2-litre Hemi V8s. That breadth of engines is a major part of its identity, especially for shoppers drawn to stronger acceleration or a more traditional Dodge performance image. Depending on the trim, it could also be equipped with leather or Nappa leather, a premium Harman Kardon audio system, and later-model convenience and safety technology such as lane departure warning, a backup camera, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
There are trade-offs, though. The earliest third-generation Durangos were affected by many recalls for issues including brake failure, problematic fuel pumps, and electrical and wiring problems, so condition and maintenance history matter. Even so, the 2017 Dodge Durango remains distinctive for buyers who want a roomy SUV with available V8 power, a broad trim range, and a more engaging personality than many of its mainstream rivals.

It’s a great vehicle. I love the looks. I love the tow capacity: I love the features and room. The 3.6/8 speed is a great combo. But… the small offset crash rating is a disaster. And as a dad of teens it made me cross it off my list. Why hasn’t dodge addresses this? Even mitigated it?

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in day-to-day use, especially when it comes to its strong engine character, comfortable ride, and family-friendly practicality. The current average of $19,581 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,581 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Durango has become a bit easier to buy, which can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

The bottom line: If you want a three-row SUV with strong owner approval, a distinctive personality, and a market that has eased a bit, the 2017 is a sensible target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2017 remains a solid choice for buyers who value the Durango’s mix of space and character.
