CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Dodge Challenger

Summary
With 88 currently listed for sale and an average price of $33,805 CAD, 23.9% of 2017 Dodge Challenger listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Dodge Challenger 4.64 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Dodge Challenger stands out as a muscle car that mixes old-school attitude with everyday usability. It is a five-passenger coupe with a user-friendly Uconnect infotainment system that includes a touchscreen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay, which helps make it more practical than its styling might suggest. It was also designed on a platform suitable for both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and Dodge offered a wide range of powertrains, transmissions, and special editions, giving buyers plenty of ways to tailor the car to their tastes.
What makes the 2017 Challenger especially appealing is the breadth of its personality. The model line includes Pentastar V6 and Hemi V8 engines, manual and automatic transmissions, and performance hardware such as adaptive suspension, launch control, and Brembo brakes. Dodge also kept the car visually fresh with standout colours, special editions, and styling details like spoilers, hood scoops, unique fascia and grille designs, special upholstery, and distinctive badging. Widebody variations were offered for some trims in 2019 and 2020, adding broader fenders, which further reinforced the car’s aggressive look.
There are a few caveats for shoppers to keep in mind. The Challenger’s long run means prices vary widely, and many examples were neglected or abused. Owner feedback also points to some drawbacks, including fuel costs and a cabin that can feel short on modern interior features. Even so, the 2017 Dodge Challenger remains attractive for buyers who want a distinctive, powerful coupe with strong heritage and enough everyday comfort to use regularly.

Very retro! The SXT package with its 6 cylinder was plenty as the vehicle has plenty to keep it going, but it's more of a retro 70's showcar and still draws attention!

How much does the 2017 Dodge Challenger cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $33,771 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $33,504 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $44,173 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $37,270 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.39% |
Prices have softened 9.39% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 88 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of choice in the used market.
Is the 2017 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.64/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, comfort, and stylish design, and many also like its muscle-car heritage and daily driving capability. It is especially appealing if you want a distinctive five-passenger coupe with a user-friendly Uconnect system and enough everyday usability to live with regularly. With 23.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in day-to-day use, with owners highlighting its stability, handling, and overall confidence on the road. The strongest long-term ownership case comes from the combination of enthusiastic owner support and the model’s reputation for being enjoyable to live with over time. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the concept of the car and more about finding one that has been cared for properly.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Dodge Challenger?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right car appears, but you should still be selective.
- Deal availability: 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 88 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.39% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $33,504 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $33,771 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,270 CAD.
That softer pricing can be helpful if you're buying now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about where the market is headed. If prices stay near today's level, resale values should remain more stable than they were a year ago, but not especially strong. The model's broad appeal and distinctive character can help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with the right equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.39% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a well-liked Challenger at a softer price point than it was a year ago, especially if you value the model's mix of style, comfort, and everyday usability. If you're more price-sensitive, keep shopping within the broader Challenger range and focus on the best-maintained example you can find, since condition matters a lot in this market.
