Is the 2017 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Generally — 4/5 is a solid user rating for this model year, and the 2017 BMW 5 Series fits well if you want a luxury sedan that balances comfort with some remaining verve. It is still recognisably a 5 Series, but it leans more toward a comfortable premium experience than the sharper, more driver-focused character of earlier versions. In Canada, the standard xDrive all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmission add everyday usability, while the available technology and understated styling broaden its appeal. 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2017 BMW 5 Series is described as having a stronger reliability record than the earlier F10 generation, which is encouraging if you want a used luxury sedan with some peace of mind. That said, you should still budget carefully for ownership, because premium sedans can bring higher long-term maintenance and repair costs than mainstream alternatives.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and focus on the best-priced examples.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 75 listings available.

If you find a listing below $24,068 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 BMW 5 Series' resale value?

The current average of $24,854 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,933 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit near-term upside for a future seller. If you purchase at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned to protect value when it is time to sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a sensible choice if you want a well-equipped luxury sedan with standard xDrive, a comfortable character, and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If your priority is finding the best value, you should focus on the cleanest examples priced near the lower end of the range; if you want to compare across nearby years, a different model year may make sense when equipment, pricing, or condition lines up better for your budget.
