Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, luxurious comfort, and broad feature set, while the overview shows it suits you if you want a premium midsize sedan that still prioritises driving character and engineering depth. It also appeals if you want a well-equipped luxury car that remains easy to live with day to day. With 38.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a car that many owners find dependable in everyday use, with praise centred on a smooth driving experience and a strong engine. That said, the model’s reputation is not spotless, so you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and how the car has been cared for over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a poorly maintained example, especially given the model’s complexity and potential upkeep costs.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some patience and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 50 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $16,510 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW 5 Series' resale value?

The current average of $16,510 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,780 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some of its near-term depreciation, which can help if you buy at the right number. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it properly, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell. The current market also shows that buyers still respond to this model year’s mix of performance and luxury, which helps support future demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the 2016 BMW 5 Series, it makes sense to focus on well-kept examples because the model’s appeal comes from its balance of performance, comfort, and equipment. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2016 remains a strong choice when you find one with a clean history and attractive pricing.
