Generally — the 4.2/5 user rating suggests this is a well-liked used luxury sedan. The user feedback points to a car that many owners see as a great value when well maintained, and the model’s reputation in this generation is generally positive. At the same time, some buyers have raised concerns about potential engine issues and basic features in certain models, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a neglected example that could demand more upkeep than you planned for.

What is the 2017 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $16,328 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,027 CAD.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range. The fact that the model still attracts shoppers looking for performance and premium feel should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2017 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a used 3 Series that balances driving enjoyment, premium feel, and a more approachable price than newer examples. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2017 stands out as a sensible middle ground for shoppers who want value without giving up the core BMW character.
