CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Audi Q5

Summary
With 74 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,665 CAD, 31.1% of 2017 Audi Q5 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Audi Q5 4.6 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Audi Q5 stands out as a luxury compact SUV that leans more on refinement, practicality, and standard equipment than on ruggedness. It has standard quattro all-wheel drive, a smooth and comfortable ride, and a roomy, high-quality interior, which helps explain its appeal to buyers who want an upscale daily driver with a premium feel. It also comes well equipped, so even the entry-level version includes features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and cruise control.
What makes this model year especially distinctive is that it belongs to the first-generation Q5, which had already built a reputation for solidity and a polished cabin. For 2017, the Q5 was still offered with the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 that replaced the earlier V6, and the SQ5 remained part of the range with its 354-horsepower supercharged 3.0-litre V6. That gives the 2017 Q5 a broader performance spread than many rivals, while still keeping the focus on comfort and everyday usability.
There are trade-offs, though. The Q5 is not as much fun to drive as some midsize SUVs, and some models are rather expensive. Reliability is also a consideration, with first-generation Q5s associated with issues such as excessive oil consumption, timing chain problems, panoramic sunroof rattles or leaks, and noisy suspension from failing control arms. Even so, for shoppers who value a premium interior, standard all-wheel drive, and a balanced mix of comfort and practicality, the 2017 Audi Q5 remains an appealing choice.

Drives great, tows way more than it should, beyond comfortable and has a refined interior. Pricey but checked all the boxes of what I was looking for at a lower cost point then the trucks and larger suvs I was originally looking at. Audi makes great vehicles if you can accept the high cost of ownership. Only reason I’m not going five stars is price of purchase and cost of ownership. Otherwise I love the vehicle.

I think the interface on the car needs to be updated to fit modern and future technology. The horse power needs to be beefed up to stay competative in the segment its in. Overall its a good, safe and economical car. The Quattro system is great, and the cabin comfort is excellent.

How much does the 2017 Audi Q5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,672 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $14,672 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $18,320 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,463 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −15.99% |
Prices have softened 15.99% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 312 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2017 Audi Q5 a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Audi Q5 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its refined comfort, spacious interior, and fun driving experience, and many also value its towing ability and balanced handling. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a premium daily driver with luxury feel and practical usability. With 29.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still meaningful value to be found if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Audi Q5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable and enjoyable to live with over time, especially when it comes to comfort and everyday usability. The overall impression is that it can be a trouble-free choice for shoppers who maintain it properly and buy with care. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that repair history and maintenance quality matter a lot on this model year.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Audi Q5?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 312 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.99% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,672 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Audi Q5's resale value?
The current average of $14,672 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,463 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favourable entry point. If you plan to sell later, the softer current pricing means your future resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance records. Well-kept examples should still appeal to shoppers looking for a premium compact SUV with a strong reputation for comfort and practicality.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $19,328 CAD, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $14,672 CAD average.
- It brings a full redesign with more room, newer technology, and improved refinement.
The bottom line: Choose the 2017 if you want the better value and are focused on comfort, practicality, and a premium feel. Consider the 2018 if you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more for added sophistication and updated features. If price matters most, the 2017 is the smarter starting point; if you want the more modern package, the 2018 is worth the stretch.
