Is the 2016 Volvo XC90 reliable?

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable and comfortable over time, with reliability helped by its strong safety reputation and premium build quality. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average if the vehicle has not been well cared for.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 60 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.10% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,704 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $19,704 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,485 CAD.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at today’s average, your resale position will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance records. A well-kept example should still appeal to shoppers looking for a premium three-row SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want the best value on this generation, the 2016 is a sensible place to start because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction remains strong. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on similarly equipped nearby model years and compare condition, mileage, and service history before deciding.
