Is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Generally — the 4.4/5 user rating suggests you’re looking at a well-liked compact SUV. Owners commonly praise its driving experience, interior quality, and value for the price, and many also point to its smooth ride and good fuel economy. If you want a compact SUV with a more premium, car-like feel and a roomy cabin, this model year fits that brief well. With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people find dependable enough to live with, especially when the driving experience and interior quality matter to you. At the same time, the same feedback also flags concerns around the panoramic sunroof and accountability for related problems, so reliability is not the Tiguan’s strongest calling card. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable only if you inspect carefully and prioritise a thorough pre-purchase check.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

What is the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $10,686 CAD sits slightly below last year's $13,332 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the Tiguan more attractive to you as a buyer but less favourable if you’re thinking about future resale. If you buy at the right price now, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The current spread between the year-round low and high also shows there is still room for pricing to move depending on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 19.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2016 Tiguan makes sense if you want a compact SUV with a polished, premium-leaning feel and you can find one priced near the lower end of the market. If you’re more price-sensitive, you should still compare nearby model years and focus on the best-maintained example rather than the cheapest one.
