The current average of $17,867 CAD sits slightly below last year's $18,254 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited if prices stay under pressure. If you plan to sell later, the current trend points to a vehicle that should remain reasonably liquid rather than sharply appreciating. Strong demand for practical, well-liked compact SUVs should still help support values.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 20.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $15,890 CAD, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $17,867 CAD average.
• It offers practical space and everyday usefulness.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the newer update and are comfortable paying the current market average for a well-liked compact SUV. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2015 is the better value play and still delivers the core RAV4 strengths.
