CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC
Summary
With 14 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,174 CAD, 28.6% of 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC stands out as a compact luxury SUV that replaced the GLK with a much sleeker, more practical shape. Mercedes-Benz positioned it on the same basic platform as the C-Class sedan and wagon, and the result was a five-seat SUV that felt more polished and less awkward than its predecessor. It was also designed to deliver the kind of on-road comfort and refinement buyers expect from a premium crossover, rather than chasing hardcore off-road ability.
For this model year, the GLC 300 was the entry point in North America, using a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 241 horsepower, while 4Matic all-wheel drive was standard in Canada from the start. The lineup also included the GLC 350e plug-in hybrid, which added an 85 kW electric motor and produced a total system output of 320 hp, and the AMG GLC 43, which used a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 with 362 horsepower. All versions came with a nine-speed automatic transmission, giving the GLC a straightforward mechanical setup despite its premium positioning.
What makes the 2016 GLC especially appealing is that it combined style, practicality, and a strong feature set at a time when Mercedes-Benz was clearly trying to make its compact SUV more competitive. It offered improved rear-seat space and a larger cargo area than the GLK, and it carried the aura of a premium product. The trade-off is that reliability was not a strong point, with owners noting suspension and electrical issues, and some reporting piston and cylinder problems with GLC 300 models.

I think this a luxury vehicle. Great for first time suv buyers. Jas alot of class but also can go decently fast..not as zippy as C300 smaller cars but I was impresses for suv. Glad I made this choice. Now it does hold less gas and its premium gas so pay bit more..no regrets!

How much does the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,157 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $18,157 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $20,569 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,749 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.06% |
Prices have softened 8.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 65 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for you to compare.
Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction with this model year. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC is positioned as a compact luxury SUV that trades on a sleeker shape, improved practicality, and a more polished feel than the GLK it replaced. It is aimed at you if you want a premium five-seat crossover with a comfortable, refined on-road character rather than a rugged off-road focus. With 23.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room for you to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview points to a model that delivers premium comfort and practicality, but it also notes reliability concerns tied to suspension and electrical issues, along with some piston and cylinder problems on GLC 300 models. That means you should treat a used example as a vehicle where condition and maintenance history matter a lot. For long-term ownership, your risk is higher if the previous owner skipped repairs or service.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 23.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 65 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $18,157 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?
The current average of $18,157 CAD sits slightly below last year's $19,749 CAD.
That softer pricing can work in your favour if you buy now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless the market tightens. If you plan to sell later, a well-kept example with strong service records should be easier to position against similar listings. The model's premium image and practical layout should help keep it relevant with used buyers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 23.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the lower entry price and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition, the 2016 is the better value-focused path. If you want a similar premium feel but are willing to compare nearby years for potentially fresher inventory, that secondary route may be worth exploring, especially if you are price-sensitive.
