This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings carefully.

The current average of $18,488 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,565 CAD.

That drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more price pressure if the trend continues. If you buy now, you may be entering at a lower point in the cycle than owners did a year ago. For resale, the key is to choose a well-kept example with strong documentation, because condition will matter more when the market is already softer.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $22,716 CAD, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $18,488 CAD average.
• It keeps the same upscale formula with a more refined all-around appeal.

The bottom line:
Choose the 2016 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If you can stretch your budget and want a newer example with a slightly more polished overall package, the 2017 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritise refinement over price.
