Why it stands out
The 2016 Lexus NX stands out for its sharp styling and unusual powertrain choices. Lexus introduced the NX for the 2015 model year as its first compact crossover SUV, and it arrived with an angular design and a dramatic take on the brand’s spindle grille that made it one of the most distinctive-looking vehicles in its class. It also offered a choice between a four-cylinder gas engine and a gas/electric hybrid, which helped set it apart from rivals that more often relied on conventional four- and six-cylinder engines.
For 2016, the NX remained a well-equipped, luxury-leaning compact SUV with a strong emphasis on efficiency and reliability. The NX 200t used a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, while the NX 300h hybrid combined a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine and two electric motors for 194 horsepower and improved fuel economy. Natural Resources Canada listed combined fuel consumption at 9.6 to 9.9 L/100 km for the NX 200t and 7.4 to 7.5 L/100 km for the NX 300h, depending on equipment and model year. Standard all-wheel drive in Canada and an automatic transmission across the range added to its everyday appeal.
The trade-off is that the NX was not especially generous with standard equipment, and many desirable features were bundled into option packs. It was also not as good to drive as some rivals, and owners and reviewers have noted that it can feel a bit small and noisy on the road. Even so, its comfortable cabin, timeless look, and exceptional reliability reputation make the 2016 Lexus NX appealing to buyers who value durability, efficiency, and a distinctive design over outright space or driving polish.

The car is awesome . I’m 6 ft tall and I had enough room to drive and sit comfortably. The model comes with good amenities in the base model. I will say I would have to get use to the touch pad for the interface. It’s a little weird. I am seriously thinking about getting this car.

Although a little small, the 2016 nx 200 ranked a 83/100 or 5 star for reliability in Consumer Reports. That is important to me, especially since my wife will be driving it.

Is the 2016 Lexus NX a good car?
Generally — 4.12/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. Owners consistently point to its comfortable cabin, timeless look, and good fuel economy, while also appreciating its reliability. For you, that makes it a sensible pick if you want a luxury-leaning compact SUV that prioritises efficiency and durability over maximum space or driving polish. With 20.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Lexus NX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.12/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also highlights reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, which is exactly the kind of language you want to hear when shopping used. That reputation is reinforced by comments about the NX being a vehicle people can count on over the long term, especially if you value durability and lower stress ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the NX’s core reliability and more about finding one that has been maintained properly and not worn down by age, mileage, or neglected upkeep.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Lexus NX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to be patient and compare listings before committing.
- Deal availability: 20.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 69 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.77% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $21,159 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Lexus NX's resale value?
The current average of $21,159 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,450 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favourable if you plan to sell soon. If you purchase at today’s average, your future resale value will depend heavily on how well the vehicle holds demand relative to similar luxury compact SUVs.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.12/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Lexus NX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 20.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.77% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.12/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should focus on the 2016 if you want a distinctive, comfort-oriented luxury compact SUV with strong owner satisfaction and a softer price environment. If you are especially price-sensitive, it is still worth comparing nearby model years to see whether a similar NX offers a better entry price or a better-equipped example for the money.
