It stands out as a compact SUV that balances everyday practicality with a more engaging driving character than some rivals, and its available turbocharged engine gives you extra punch if you want it. The 2016 Kia Sportage is described as a compact SUV that balances everyday practicality with a more engaging driving character than some rivals, which suggests a straightforward ownership experience for many buyers. Its standard 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine and available 2.0-litre turbocharged engine give you familiar gasoline powertrain choices rather than anything unusually complex.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained properly, especially if you are considering one with the turbocharged engine or a higher-mileage example.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 156 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.51% compared with last year.

What is the 2016 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $11,600 CAD sits slightly below last year's $12,407 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, but it can also mean future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later, especially if you avoid overpaying at the start.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
