The user feedback also points to the powerful engines, especially the turbo V6, and the broad feature set as recurring strengths. That lines up well with the Limited’s upscale positioning and the idea that this model can work for buyers who want refinement in a pickup.

There are 24.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Ford also says the F-150’s 911 Assist feature can automatically contact emergency responders after an airbag deployment, and the expert notes describe the truck as having a strong overall safety and ownership profile. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age and mileage can bring maintenance concerns, so a careful inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford F-150?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Limited trim is positioned as the luxury-focused version, with 22-inch aluminium wheels, satin-finish accents, Mojave leather seats, eucalyptus wood trim, and other upscale touches that set it apart from the more basic F-150 grades.
• Powertrain: The twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 is the highlighted engine here, with 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, plus a six-speed automatic transmission and Sport driving mode.
• Safety package: Ford offers adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system. 911 Assist is also included through Sync, and the lane-keeping and forward-collision systems can produce false warnings.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touchscreen with swipe capability, improved voice recognition, Siri compatibility, a rear-view camera, and Wi-Fi software updates. Navigation is available, and Apple CarPlay pairing was not straightforward in testing.
• Fuel efficiency: The test loop returned 14.0 L/100 km.

Which 2016 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the entry point if you want the most affordable way into the F-150 lineup, but it is the least luxurious choice and is best for buyers who care more about basic truck duty than premium features.
• XLT: This is the sensible step up if you want a better balance of equipment and value without jumping into the high-end trims.
• Lariat: This is the trim to consider if you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to the top of the range.
• King Ranch: This suits you if you want a more premium, distinctive cabin and are willing to pay for it.
• Platinum: This is for buyers who want a high-end truck with a strong luxury emphasis.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice if you want the most luxurious version and are comfortable paying for the top-tier experience.

Ford notes that 4WD is standard on the top three grades in Canada, and the Limited is the trim most clearly positioned as the luxury flagship.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 24.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 423 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.76% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $20,440 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $21,643 CAD sits slightly below last year's $23,213 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you may have less depreciation left to absorb than someone who bought when prices were higher.

The truck’s strong reputation for comfort, power, and feature content should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Higher-mileage trucks and pricier trims may still face more price pressure, so condition and specification will matter when you eventually sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2016 Ford F-150 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star rollover resistance ratings for both 2WD and 4WD models.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford includes 911 Assist through Sync, which can automatically call emergency responders after an airbag deployment. Available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system that can alert the driver and help prevent lane departure.

One caveat is that the truck is not eligible for Top Safety Pick+ because it does not have automatic emergency braking, and the lane-keeping and forward-collision systems can issue false warnings in some situations.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 24.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Ford’s 2016 update brings Sync 3, Pro Trailer Backup Assist, and strong safety ratings.

The bottom line: If you want a used F-150 with a more luxurious feel, strong safety credentials, and updated tech, the 2016 is a compelling choice. If you are more price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years and focus on the best-maintained truck you can find at the lowest clean price.
