CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Chevrolet Cruze
Summary
With 241 currently listed for sale and an average price of $8,953 CAD, 24.9% of 2016 Chevrolet Cruze listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze 4.1 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze stands out as the start of a much-improved second generation. Chevrolet redesigned it for 2016 with better fuel economy, more rear seat room, and modern safety and infotainment technology, giving the Cruze a more polished feel than its earlier reputation suggested. It was also offered in sedan and hatchback form, which added a practical edge that many compact-car shoppers value.
For 2016, the Cruze came only with a turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine making 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. That engine could use as little as 6.8 L/100 km combined, which made it a strong choice for buyers who wanted efficiency without giving up everyday drivability. The cabin also brought useful standard equipment, including a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar, Bluetooth, keyless entry, and steering wheel-mounted controls, while available safety features included automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alerts, blind spot alerts, and lane departure warnings with lane keep assist.
The 2016 Cruze is appealing because it combines low running costs, a roomy interior, and a long list of tech features at a relatively accessible price. It is also notably more reliable than the original Cruze, although some reliability trackers still gave the 2016 models middling marks for electrical problems. That makes it a sensible used-car pick for shoppers who want a compact car that feels more modern and better equipped than its budget-car roots might suggest.

Absolutely love this car! We ended up buying the 2016 Cruze with 33k on it. It is getting an average of 32mpg in town and around 45mpg on the highway!! We have driven A LOT this week and still have a quarter of a tank. The features are great too. Simple enough to use (not a technology overload) but tech enough to be much more convenient. For instance, I have used cars that connect (like this one does) to you phone with Bluetooth but when you actually make a call, it keeps disconnecting OR the other person has a hard time hearing you. My mom, who is hard of hearing, says it is easier and clearer for her to hear me when I use my phone in the car over the car speakers than when I use my high quality blue tooth headset or use the phone normally. I have a late model iPhone so it is impressive that using it with my Cruze car speakers sounds better. The car is also more comfortable in my opinion, than the 2009 Malibu we traded in. Also, lots of trunk space and leg room in the back seat. In addition, it is easy for me to see around me in this car. I am short and sometimes that can be a challenge. At the same time, it is comfortable for my husband, who is tall. We LOVE this car!

This little car has been great so far in the three days I had it. It has a nice pick up in power and the ride is smooth. It takes awhile for the A/C to cool down the car but is overall a nice car to have for both my daughter and myself.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze a good car?
Generally — the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze earns a 4.1/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Is the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze reliable?

The owner feedback also points to a car that many people find dependable for everyday use, with strong value in efficiency and features. At the same time, some reviewers mention reliability concerns such as overheating, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and any warning signs during a test drive. For used buyers, that means the Cruze can make sense as a long-term ownership choice, but condition and service records matter.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Cruze?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze's resale value?
The current average of $8,937 CAD sits slightly below last year's $9,816 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Cruze has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy at the right number and keep the car in good condition, you can help protect your position when it is time to sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 23.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.95% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2016 Cruze is a strong choice if you want the newer second-generation design, better efficiency, and a more modern cabin than the earlier model years. If your priority is the best value at the lowest possible price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2016 is the better pick if you want the more polished version of the Cruze experience.
